Tiny K Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I just bought a new bike, without wheels, and want to use my old Shimano RS10 wheelset on the bike. Campagnolo groupo means new freebody, and being 11spd would have meant a new Shimano freebody - either way, it's now about which works out cheaper. QUestion is, where can I find a freebody for a Campagnolo cassette with the flower type formation of a Shimano freebody, which is 11spd compatible?
Jakkals. Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Shimano 11spd freebody wont take a 11 spd campy cassette. You have to get a campy freehub
CAAD4 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Sell the RS10's and buy the correct wheels. I would think that It's certainly simpler getting Campy wheels with Shimano hubs, than the other way round.
Longbarn Killer Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 You get Campag wheels with Shimano freebodys, but I've never heard of a Campag freebody for a Shimano wheel.
BikesRxS Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Hi if you email me I can selling you a set of 11 speed compatible wheelset with brand new 11speed cassette for 4500
orbeaorca Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I think the shimano RS10 wheels are not built to be 11 speed so they not gonna work. You can put a 11speed campy cassette on a 10 speed campy freebody without re-dishing the wheel which is an option for a wheel which has a shimano freebody for which you can get campy freebody. There is also cross-compatability between sram/campy/shimano cassettes on the back wheel irrespective of which of the 3 groupsets shifters, RD etc you are using.( check Lennard Zinn on velonews) Mavic 10 speed wheels easily take a 11speed cassette since they always had an extra spacer on the freebody. i just did this. You could for example just take a 10speed shimano set of mavics and pop a 11 speed sram or shimano cassette on it and run it with you campy. Tiny K 1
Tiny K Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Thanks guys. The only person who remotely answered my question is Longbarn Killer. I have a 10spd wheelset - I have an 11spd Campy Cassette; so all I need is the freebody... but it seems no one knows if it is even manufactured...
Cippo Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Easiest option is dump the wheels and get a wheelset with Campy freehub. CWC has some new Fulcrum 5's and 7's for under 3500. They can supply a Campy freehub. As mentioned, noce thing about Campy is that it uses same freehub for 10 and 11 speed. Tiny K 1
Tiny K Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Ok, so official answer from Shimano is, no it doesn't work. Buy 11spd compatible wheels and cassette to match.
