Hi guys, need some help. I havent cycled for a year due to a major foot injury. I was operated on in December and am now able to start running and cycling.

I am a little irritated with myself because I should have started about 4 weeks ago, but as running is my first love I took that gap... it is also SOOO dark in the mornings.

Any ideas on a 4 week base-training program??

Tracey, I think don't worry about a structured programme - just go out and ride with no pressure. No set times, no set pace, no target mileage. Just ride like you're a kid again, explore the neighborhood, ride in the park, along the beachfront (if you got one), etc.

In time, test your foot a bit. Every now and then, hit a little incline hard and see how it feels. If good, then start to up the pace.

Then set a target: something like '50km pain free ride'. at that point, look at a structured training programme to go forward.

This is how I startef after being broken most of last year (I also prefer running):

2 x short rides (30-60") in the week, interspaced by running sessions (2-3/wk). Longer ride during weekend.

Some of those were spinning or just in the gym.

Being consistent is the most important thing.

Hope it helps

This is solid advice.
