In my vast experience and knowledge, is there a specific name for those rear hubs that when you back pedalled you either fell off or the bike came to a stand still?

Would there be one available for a mountain bike wheel ? Or even a road wheel? and where would one get such an item ?

ah ha ! so those things are called coaster hubs !!

right, so do they make 'em for mtb wheels or is it just road bikes or does it not matter ?

do you also need the specific axle ?

needing to understand how this thingy works.

I have an old school steel frame that I would like to put a "coaster" hub on.

So in ya'all experience, what are all the parts needed ?

Don't waste your time. They are a bitch especially when you stop at a stop street and you need to "back pedal" to get your cranks aligned for pull away.

just looking for a bike as a short distance run around - but I see what you are saying.

will have to look around to figure this thing out and how to hook it up

maybe it would be easier to by the postmans bike
