  1. Bingo that solves it, I reckon you`re 100% right, it blew over and some idiot replaced it in the wrong spot either accidentally or intentionally.
  2. Kudo`s to the organizers. this was most probably my nicest 94.7 ever, access to venue was great, parking was superb, organization was good if a little distant, route was great, enjoyed the extra drag on the highway to Nasrec. Not cycling fit I realized yesterday and my ass was/is in pain, but quiet chuffed with a 3:43 on my 13 year old 26" Trance, knobblies, last weeks mud and all. I will be back. P.S. My heart goes out to Emma. The race was hers and the only part where the organizers/race marshals stuffed up, there should have been a marshal to direct the flow onto the track or in the very least an arrow pointing which way to go or some tape accross the track to block the no entry side towards the right.
  3. I was gifted a double entry by someone who dropped out due to injury and hadn`t ridden a 94.7 MTB since the good old back to back days and a particularly irritating race with massive traffic jams around Leeukop as far as i recal,l which pretty much took the event off my calendar till now. I thought the course wasn`t bad given the constraints and apart from 1 longish traffic jam along the river I really enjoyed it, organization seemed fine too and all went smoothly. The entry fee is steep and I`m not sure i would have bought a ticket with my own diminished wallet but having said that i wouldn`t feel cheated if i had, I`m rather looking forward to Sunday`s road race, now that i`ve done my training ride :).
  4. Have clifton 5`s and 7`s done over 1300km in the 7`s and use them as my daily trainers and they probably have another 200km left in them, never had a blister, ran a 28km with them straight out the box, ran right through a nasty bout of plantar fasciatis in them, including 1 marathon and am fine now, love them but they are more daily trainer than speed shoes. Crap on wet tar though. I`m about 84kg and wear a wide and run 10 in under 50min. Cant wait to try the Hoka Mach 4`s coming out now.
  5. Just a general enquiry if anyone out there is using a Coros sport watch, ie, Apex pro or Pace 2, for triathlon. Is there a local agent /importer around and what the experience is. Please no responses about garmin/polar etc. I know their products etc. Many thanks, Frank
  6. Trek is perfect for you, Merida also but Trek will be lighter and looks in perfect if they drop the price to 35 even better!
  7. Is there a company/craftsman out there who can reprofile and sharpen quality steel knives, I`d like to have my Sage with SV30 steel blade properly sharpened after a decade of only touching up. Sharp edge in Sandton used to do it but they are gone!
  8. Look`s concept is more pleasing to the eye, I like the simplicity here but the lines are all over the place, which kind of defeats the objective of the the `clean` look for me, if only they had kept the lines of the seat stays and top tube in line....... still like it though and OTB risk to the undercarriage is also probably reduced.
  9. 100% , Just keep the tyre pressure reasonable and they will last.
  10. In my opinion that would be a code 3 repair job. They may be able to glue it together and paint over it neatly but you`d be crazy to risk your life and ride that. Chances are you will sell it on after the repair, will you then declare the full extent of the repair to the prospective buyer, i can almost guarantee that you`ll get virtually nothing for that bike. Tell the insurance to take a running leap and replace with equal or better, it`s not a total loss for them as the other parts from the bike can be used so they must either source an equivalent frame ,even if it`s second hand, but not crash damaged obviously!
  11. First time I`ve done the 94.7 since 2016, love the new route, access and parking also hugely improved. Hope they keep it like this.
  12. Dogs, or at least their *****ng owners are the worst, they hover and they get all shirty and abusive when you kick Fido in the chops and then they want to call the SADF/Metros and their whole family when you grab them and shake them a bit.......
  13. Not sure what deals there are on the Merida 120 but they are worth a look against this group
  14. Try the 1,5lt engine still uses a proper timing chain rather than rubber belt and can run to 300K.km easily.
  15. Just go and buy a 1,5lt Honda Jazz, way better car, much bigger inside, superb internal packaging space and will outlast any VW and wont get stolen..
  16. R1200 for 2 ratchets is already extortion, DT should be selling their hubs with those ratchets as standard i.m.o. instead of ripping off their customers with this `upgrade`.
  17. Broken 3 collarbones, 2 plated: 1st(left) from motorcycle crash along with scapula and 5 ribs, broke on a Sunday Plate installed on Tuesday, driving again on Thursday, no way i would have managed without the plate 2nd was LH side again after a little lowside liedown at Kyalami, broke under plate across screw hole, no surgery needed as plate created a ledge for the bone to allign against took at least 2 weeks before i could even drive again and 6 weeks before i rode again! 3d was RH side after massive OTB at Fast One road race, had left side plate removed at the same time. Right hand plate still in and irritates me with seatbelts, rucksacks, kids climbing on shoulders etc. Will have it removed at next repair job but as mentioned by others the bone must be allowed to strengthen after removal. Would i do a plate again.....without hesitation, as you will be mobile again quickly even if you can`t train to full capacity.
  18. Bend the plate in a U-shape to clip over the break and then glue it in place with epoxy or rivet if you have space. Otherwise try to get another compatible broken deraileur where the cage is still good and dremel grind/drill the rivets out and bolt/rivet together, grind down the inside bolts. i`ve done this before and it works great but you have to check clearances inside the deraileur.
  19. Husqvarna svartpilen 701 - 690 Duke in fancy dress.......I like it a lot!
  20. I reckon it`s when girls spend too much time riding bikes with crappy saddles....!
  21. I have an old army buddy who used to be a fairly serious athlete, Iron man, Dusi, cycling etc. Had his right leg amputated above the knee due to bone cancer. This weekend someone lent him an e-bike(assisted peddling) and he managed to ride properly with a big group of mountainbikers and keep up! Seeing the immense joy he got from this tells me e-bikes have a definite place on our trails.
  22. Forgot to add, don`t forget comfort, lots of fast light bikes out there that will send a jolt up your spine over every bump but if you`re slightly longer in the tooth look at comfort too because if its you`re going to have it for a while like a proper Fortuner then you`ll value the comfort part for sure!
