hi Guys, hope you can help me out. I recently sold my silverback 26 and looking for a 29er. there is a shop here in centurion selling a Schwinn moab 2 with tubeless conversion as an extra.

What are your opinions on the schwinn?

thanks

Schwinn have always been a highly respected brand. They are now part of the same group of companies as Cannondale and GT.

Because of this, there was a restructuring of the products between the brands and Schwinn now concentrates on the commuter, recreation market. They no longer sell high end mtb or road bikes. Most of their products are the more entry type of bikes.

I've seen these Moabs at Sportmans Warehouse and must say, they are good value for money. If you were to compare them to similar specced bikes from other brands, they are up there with the best.

Before you buy, check out www.obike.co.za They have some really good deals on Schwinns. You buy online and the bike is delivered to your nearest Schwinn agent where you can collect and pay.

My first MTB I bought earlier this year was an Schwinn Moab Elite. It was an 2012 model 26er,'old stock' clearance.

Hammered this bike for about 4 months and 1600km's and it surprised me.I weigh about 93kg and it took everything I threw at it without any problems and I like to ride hard.

They are equiped with entry level parts so are not for the serious racing snakes, but as a fun rider its perfect.

In my experience they are good value for money.

I had a Schwinn bmx back in the day, it was amazing. I had a Diamond back and Mongoose and the Schwinn was the one I liked the most.

Schwinn makes good bikes, for good value.

The old Schwinn brand was known for quality and performance value for money. The brand has had its hardship with bankruptcy and re-ownerships but the current brand still lives up to these same values. Should be a good bike but so are many others in this price range.

My first MTB, 2000 Schwinn Moab 1 which I still have for friends.

thanks guys for the responses. im taking a friends 29er out to wolvespruit tomorrow for a test ride as some guys have convinced me to look at the 650b being a little smaller than the 29er making it good for maneuvering on single trails

The 650b version of the Schwinn is called the Rocket.
