Sorry, I know I will be flamed for this, but I believe that there is truth in my theory.

All this hijackings and thefts started and gained momentum soon after the iniatives (think Songo) was launched in Kayamandi and surrounding communities to get the guys on bikes.

Lots of money was spent on sponsoring guys and getting them on nice new bikes. Now there is lots of "have nots" around that want to have these bikes, but can't afford them.

So what is easier than helping yourself to such a shiny new bike from the constant supply stream of bikes going past Kayamandi and Cloetesville. I mean, they belong to the rich people that can afford them (and have Insurance on them). Steal/jack the bike and the rich man will just get a new one from insurance, the jacker got a "new" bike, the shop sold a new bike, the economy grew, so it's a win win all round.

For this same reason the cops does nothing about it, they see it as part of the system of redistributing the wealth.

possible, but that area is too small to "hide" soo many bikes even if they are swopping out components, the bikes will be seen, again maybe one or two but surely not the bulk

Like I said, it is the "source" for the bikes, they can get shipped off to other areas in a matter of hours, if not minutes.

Lots of places around where it can just disapear into.

Perhaps these bikes are being split up and shipped/transported across the borders and then into bigger markets like Europe and the America's??

This is possible. Why is it that the cops don't seem to get info from the perps(read pri*ks) after they are apprehended. Surely one or two squeal.

i have posted before, but i got no answer from any hubbers

i spoke to a transporter who does, congo, north africa he rekons the bikes go there and from there they are stripped and sent to europe,,,,, it makes no sense, but as i said then there are simply too many for local consumption of common day criminals

There must be a syndicate running in and around stellies. The demand for bikes is high and I'm sure every petty thief knows that.

I walked past Hazz coffee shop in Ryneveld street the other morning and noticed a shady character staring at 2 S-Works Epics with hungry eyes. The bikes were resting against a tree unchained. I made eye contact with him and he immediately walked in the opposite direction, but as I continued to walk he approached the bikes again. I turned and went to confront him, but he crossed the street and disappeared into the parking lot.

I hope something is done to eradicate this problem asap. Eden forest is far less fun when you're expecting the worst while flowing down the trails.

Hope you get your bike back Campbell.
