RaceTec timing chips

These chips cannot be 'reformatted' - they are read-only. I know as the company I used to work for supplies the mini-readers used at the Expo. In any case, there is no point in 'reformatting;. The problem is that the chip has a unique ID and RaceTec would have to relink the results from the old chips to the new one.

As anyone who knows SQL will know, this is not a technical problem. The problem is that it is going to take them time (and money). And if they do that for you, they will have to do it for everyone. It will turn into a right pain in the arse for them, so it's best for them to not even go there.

This is a more likely scenario.

The chips are always just an RFID number which gets written into the db an linked to a user on registration.

I deal with those kinds of things every day but devs are grumpy people and dont like doing more work than needed :P

Seems ppa/racetec don't give a rats ass about customer service and satisfaction... The Chap even says he does not mind if all the results get deleted.. So why don't they just delete * from results where chipno=. To me it stinks of cutting off your nose to spite your face... Where the nose in this case is the pittance they will make in selling a new chip and the marketing they can do to say they have over inflated member numbers in the database

Having trouble getting information out of RaceTec, perhaps someone here can help me out.

Entered in a race this Saturday (Java MTB in Robertson). Don't  have a chip, should I be able to get one at the race day itself?

Otherwise, can I just race and time myself?

You can phone PPA to be sure but normally they also sell timing chips at races timed by PPA.

You can of course time yourself, but if you want your time on the website you need a chip.
