Just a question.

The guys that are doing Tri rock and IMSA.  Which of the following strategies are you following?

1. Tapering for Tri rock and racing  the event

2. Normal training but easy sessions the week leading up to the event....and then using it as a training session to get the distance in?

I am thinking that I am not going to taper like i normally do before a long event.....as IM is the main goal for the season.  This might mean a bit more suffering on Sunday as my legs wont be that well rested.

I am doing the highlighted above...treat it as training ....I really don't care too much about time but want to get the distance in and at a moderate pace too.... another poster suggested a 60km ride on Saturday ...I wont be doing that but will do a leisurely short run and swim.

If I can finish feeling good in under 7 hours then I will be happy.... that's my only goal, no rush

Thats my plan. Train like i normally do during the week. Friday easy swim. Saturday an easy ride.....short swim. And then sunday the race for distance. Was thinking of a time no longer than 6:30....but might have to see how the day goes. Thats 45 mins slower than my time at EL 70.3 (last year). Just worried that i push to hard for an event thats only 6 weeks out from IMSA

I'm a bit confused, can we still rack our bikes and reg Sunday morning? It would not be so lekker to go to the venue just to reg and rack your bike?

There is a race briefing on ssaturday which is normally compulsory so do both. I would think you will not be able to rack bike on the sunday morning hwoever will be allowed to put bottles and make final checks on the bike on sunday morning.

It is compulsory to register and rack your bike on Saturday between 15h00 and 18h00.

No registrations or bike checkins will happen on Sunday morning.

I spent some time at Heia Safari today, the road that they are surfacing is quite impressive. Still a lot of work to do but there will be a hard smooth rideable surface from Transition right to Beyers Naude.

The hill coming out of Transition will be quite challenging on jelly legs from the swim.

There is also complete road closure which is an incredible achievement. Not even other cyclists will be allowed on the route.

Wow, I never thought they'd achieve a road by race day...

Starting to get really anxious now. I hope I've done enough.

I think this race is going to be tougher than we realize...the cycle will include a lot of elevation and the run will too. Normally tri's have flatish runs, this wont really be the case here...anyway, it is what it is ...looking forward to the experience and going to take it relaxed...idea is to enjoy it and train .....

Dozens of people on Tri-bikes in the cradle this morning.

Going to Heia on the MTB to have a play around tomorrow.

Good luck to you guys for next week - I will be on the East Rand riding The Ride for Sight :-)

TriRockSa on Twitter: "The TriRock Cradle run will be on road surface. Lots of questions around it being a trail run. It's NOT a trail run. Bring yr racing flats."

I went into Heia yesterday on my ride and did the new road section.

It is steep! It is smooth! The short section between Beyers Naude and the entrance to Heia is not quite as smooth but very rideable.

I also realised that we have to run up that hill twice! I think it will be just as tough as Bunkers Hill.
