Converting to 1x10 with a 42T addition.

What small cassette do i remove?

Getting a 16T is not an option as i want to ride tomorrow and cannot wait.

I removed the 15, and it was terrible. Rather remove 17. The 16 really is the sweetspot when you manage to get one. If the post office ever goes off strike, I have one for you.

Afternoon busy with a 1 x 10 upgrade aswell. If I look at the feetup specialized(SWEET RIDE) the big red chain ring on the back do you just swop out one of your existing chain ring on the back? And is a 32T chain ring ample for riding trails, single track & district roads? What is the life span on a chain once conversion is done more or less than running 2x10? Sorry for all the questions but if I want decent advice I guess this is the place to ask.

Most remove a smaller/bigger ring at the back, and add in a 16T to take up the slack of the removed ring and then the larger 43T will fit on the freehub first

That's if you buy the OneUp cassette ring.

I bought the Wolf ring Cassatte ring, removed the 17T sprocket and the 40T then slots in behind the 36T.

I have a 32T up front, it is more than enough. I am actually considering going to a 34T.

I rode a 3x10 before and just stuck to my centre front ring, a 33T, for about a month to confirm the frnt ring size.

Hope this helps.

Standard listing of cassette gears

11-34T (Shimano) 11 13 15 17 19 21 23 26 30 34

12-36T (SRAM) 12 13 15 17 19 22 25 28 32 36

11-36T (Shimano/SRAM)11 13 15 17 19 21 24 28 32 36

in the the above examples you can remove the 15 and 17, replace with a 16T to allow for smoother changes and add the 42T to the top of the range(as seen below)

11-34T(Shimano) 11 13 16 19 21 23 26 30 34 42

12-36T(SRAM) 12 13 16 19 22 25 28 32 36 42

11-36T(Shimano/SRAM) 11 13 16 19 21 24 28 32 36 42

This will allow for mostly smooth shifts, in the first example you may have hassles shifting from 34 to 42T

Edit : Sorted layout
