Howsit HUBbers. My name is Andy Hadfield, I'm working with the race organisers and the sponsors to help get some of the cool behind-the-scenes info out about this race (and I'm riding it - yet to see whether that's a good idea!)... Saw you had a previous thread going under it's old name. New name, new thread :)

You've read everything on the site. What I (there may be a few others from the race posting under this account) wanted to do was share some of the other stories with you. What better place to release ride content than straight to the riders, eh?

And I hear JUMA is giving Shova a run for it's money?

On Thur, we're taking a small bunch of riders with Neil Evans (one of the course designers). Going to take some photos of the obstacles and share with you. Also we did quite a fun interview with Russell Willis which I'll share with you guys/gals before it hits any mainstream internet sites.

Otherwise let me know if you have any questions, thoughts, comments, fears, hopes, dreams, desires - can certainly pass 'em on!

Site details to stay in touch...

THE RACE:

THE SPONSORS:

In the meantime, they're fuzzy, but some here are some building pictures. One has already been posted in an obscure thread on this forum. They're bringing in 40 TONS of scaffolding to help construct the course. That includes 2 bridges over 2 main roads in Jozi. Yeah. You heard it

Those things that interfere with the joy of riding? Vaguely.

Congrats on the 1k, now you can buy and sell.....

If anyone's interested, I posted a pre-release vid for you guys/gals. On the Videos Forum - not sure how popular that one is :) Here's the link: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/143221-official-hollardjuma-hd-video/

Hi Andy

Just a quick question, what will the seeding for the batches be based on? We have entered and will ride using a racetec chip... Will you pull seeding data from saseeding.co.za which is the Mtb accepted seeding database and most accurate seeding system around?

Thanks

Righto. Had a chat with Russell and Neil.

Neil: "My experience is that more Gauteng mtb riders have a chip in their SA Seeding

number boards. The biggest national MTB marathon series (8 races) and the

biggest Gauteng series (5 races) use these"

Russell: "Seeding will be done off SA Seeding and Racetec database,Ive confirmed this now..."

Hope that helps!

So do I NEED a Racetec chip to enter and do the race, or can I use my SAS board?

Righto. Got comments from race organisers and Riaan from Cycle Events... Hope this answers any questions you guys might have around chips, timing etc.

TIMING:

* SAS boards will not be valid for Hollard JUMA

* Hollard JUMA race number boards will be provided

Racetec chip are compulsory if riders want a finish time

Racetec chips will be on sale at registration @ R120 on 9/10/11th Oct at Cycle Lab

Then from Cycle Events:

"All riders will have to wear their permanent RaceTec Timing Chip to qualify for Prize Money – No Chip No Time No Prize.

The Hollard JUMA Boards are purely to identify riders on the course and to comply with the CSA MTB Rules. All riders must have a number board on their handle bars to be identified. The emergency number for Race day will also be on the MTB board and our Sponsor will get some exposure/mileage as there branding will be present on the number board.

RaceTec will easily manage any type of sprint that might happen. We specialize in bunch sprints as the bulk of the events we time come over the line at a fast speed."

Hope that helps... I can obviously try to answer questions here, but if you need something super specific, Russell (one of the organisers) has put his email up on the site: Russell Willis <russell@bam.co.za>, sure he won't mind if you email him direct.

PS I, for one, am unlikely to be anywhere near this sprint situation ;)
