Slipperfields Mountain Bike Trails (MTB and Trail Running)

Province: Eastern Cape

Closest Town: Port Elizabeth

The Destination:

The Slipperfields Mountain Bike Trails were established in April 2014 on approximately 600ha of privately owned land. All the trails are purpose-built, hand-cut, maintained and managed by Lex and Sharon Holmes.

The trails are situated at the foot of the Lady Slipper Mountain winding their way through the Maitland River Valley on the western outskirts of Port Elizabeth.

Slipperfields Trails were built for the sole purpose of mountain bikers and trail runners. The Trails cater for all levels of mountain biker and trail runner.

Getting There:

Directions: Slipperfields Trails is located on the Old Cape Road. Travelling along the N2 freeway take the Uitenhage turnoff  just before Woodridge School and travel back towards Uitenhage for about 2km’s, at the railway line, turn right. Signs will direct you to the Slipperfields Event and Conference Centre. (GPS – 33˚55’19.55”S  25˚16’49.23”E)

Accommodation: Located on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth, accommodation is varied and plentiful being very close to Blue Horizon Bay, Van Stadens Resort, Maitland River Mouth and Jeffreys Bay.

Slipperfields has their own guesthouse close by for those who wish to overnight.

The Trail:

The trail is a typical cross-country course with varied degrees of technical components to challenge the more seasoned mountain biker. The trail is approximately 20km long with options of an easier 10km route. There is another 15km’s under construction.

The new Viper Trail, which is a dedicated downhill trail, has been completed. This 6km loop is very good skills training for all levels of rider. The trail winds it way up and down the slopes of the Lady Slipper Mountain and is situated in a forested area that is very sheltered and all weather.

A kiddies trail and Skills bike park are also in the pipeline.

Slipperfields Trails have become a popular place for couples, families and friends. If you are keen to push the envelope, there will be more than enough in the route to keep you gripped, but the riding is fine for the rest of the family at a slower pace, too. The best thing is that you can enjoy the outdoors in a safe and secure environment.

The Slipperfields Farm Kitchen provides a full farm breakfast, light meals and refreshments. Slipperfields Event and Conference Centre is fully licensed and has credit card facilities.

The trails are open weekends and public holidays from 6am to 5pm in summer and 7am to 4pm in winter.

By appointment during the week.
