  1. Is gravel grinding still popular in and around EL or am I better off finding a road cycling group? MTB is number one, but trying to plan which will be the alternative…
  2. Thanks Warick. I saw somewhere that the gravel grinding scene is popular in EL. Is it still so?
  3. Are there any folk who ride single speed in the EL area? I’m moving down next year from the flat lands and am keen on getting back into it.
  4. An awesome event! Thank you to the Barrett family who grafted their bums off, made many sacrifices and thought only of the riders’ enjoyment!! Even met someone who flew down from Jozi and she was not disappointed!!
  5. Didn’t end up going - they rained out so I went to play at PWC/Cycle Lab bike park. The following week we stayed with rich in-law uncle who had a nice IDT setup so sat on there.
  6. Nonsense man. It's your new-dad instinct inhibiting your wild mongrel inside...
  7. Must admit, when I heard about the crazy price bump I lost interest.
  8. Cool, so... Did Cradle Moon Monday - Blue/Yellow & Red. Man, what awesome trails! The red route was overgrown so made it sketchy with sniper rocks. Beautiful place and nice people. Did Suikerbosrand today, lekker sweeping gradients - also beautiful landscape, but almost no animals sighted. You think a fair bit of poaching has taken place there? The Kareekloof entrance looked like a big weak link when I got to that side... Legs are quite poked now, but hoping to get to Thaba Trails tomorrow for an easy, fun effort. Going away for the long weekend, but Buffelsdrift is on the cards for next week! So far, Jozi doesnt seem like too *** of a place.
  9. Do you perhaps have a strava route or GPX please? All I can find on Strava segments is this: Distance56.54km Avg Grade0.1% Lowest Elev1,566m Highest Elev1,903m Elev Difference337m
  10. Great everyone. Really appreciate the help! I love technical stuff - stronger on that stuff than the fitness.
  11. Morning Hubbers I'm going to be in Joburg the next 2 weeks and need someone to train with for Joberg2c. Anyone able to help please? I'm not familiar with the place of gold. Alternatively, just point me in the direction of safe places where I can get in distance and climbing! Regards Edit: I will be in Parkmore, Sandton
  12. Morning Hubbers I'm going to be in Joburg the next 2 weeks and need someone to train with for this event. Anyone able to help please? Alternatively, just point me in the direction of safe places where I can try get in distance and climbing! Regards
  13. Wish to revive this thread. Want to do the Cross Cape from Cape Town to George next week, but not keen to fork out for the expenny gear especially if I only do a single trip... Anyone know where or anyone perhaps have some gear in Cape Town that I could please rent for a week? Can arrange to get the gear back to Cape Town. Ideally just need large seat bag, medium frame bag and possibly a handlebar bag, but beggars can't be choosers! Regards
  14. Sup Gals and Guys I'm in Pringle Bay for the next 2 weeks if anyone would like to meet up for a ride. Drop me a message with your phone number and we can make a plan.
  15. My old Five Ten Kestrel laces. Size 44.5. Beaten up but not completely dead yet me thinks. The flap under the tip of one shoe is where I had it re-soled where the nylon shank has protruded through. If you're interested, message me and I can arrange courier at your cost. I live in Ceres. 16. It’s the MAMILs! For the sake of our children…
  17. Jealous of the cool kids...
  18. My in-laws also own a place there, so I'm wanting to know the same thing!
  19. I cdon't think I'm a complete idiot and I struggle enough on my own, KNOWN, bicycles with frequent muck-ups. To think that a bike mechanic can sort out a variety of bikes, with their proprietary nonsense, in a short span of time, is something to be respected and paid for (if done properly of course). I mean, how often do we tell ourselves that a quick brake bleed or changing valve, rim tape, sealant and tyre should take 30-45mins max? Then to find 2 hours has passed your bedtime and you feel like a failure and want to give up the passion of bike riding/wrenching? Respectfully, we pay professionals in the service industry for their knowledge & experience (never mind the tools) as to which screw must be replaced, rather than the cost of the screw...
  20. There are definitely a group of those... I think we forget that most folk who ride bicycles are not as bike-befok as we are and probably with little free time available, don't feel inclined to make self-wrenching a priority. Personal choice in the end.
  21. My preferred LBS in Cape Town is a little understaffed and when I asked the owner why he didn't employ another mechanic, his answer is that good wrenchers are hard to find... so...
