Wazza_pe Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 In the vain of the fantastic L'eroica races that are held around the world, it seems the organisers of The Herald VW Cycle Tour have heard our call and are including a 'classic' bike section next year. To make it a success though, we need you guys to come on board and join us on your pre-1995 bikes for the race. The acceptance rules will not be as strict as L'eroica. We will be happy for you to bring any bike you have that was built/sold more than 20 years ago. Please answer the poll so we can get an idea of interest. Thank-you.
FlashingPedals Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Damn i'd love to do this but.. So far from the Mother city..?
HeyYou Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 VW Herald Tour de Velo Classiqque Would be good to get some indication of who might attend. The idea is to have a display on the Friday and a CONCOURSE and a shortish, exhibition ride (say 30 km) on the Saturday. Then on the Sunday to ride either the 106km, or the 50km. Up to you! You can even bring a 'modern' bike to ride the Sunday, though some of us will ride tour 'old' bikes on the 50 km. This is the first one, so let's try to make it an annual event. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO DO THIS. IF ENOUGH GUYS COME WE CAN ORGANISE OUR OWN START GROUP/TIME!!!
HeyYou Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Damn i'd love to do this but.. So far from the Mother city..? As far for PE guys to ride the Argus. BUT, I'LL TRY ORGANISE AN OVERNIGHTER IN PLETT FOR THOSE GUYS THAT WANT TO COME THROUGH!!!! But I need warning of how many!!!

quintonb Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Brilliant idea. And I wish you guys great success with this.
Guest notmyname Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Yes. This is great. I would love to show off my pina.
olffie1 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Come on guys, this is your chance to bring the family to the beautiful beaches in Port Elizabeth, show off your steel dream machine and then have a relaxing scenic ride through and around the panoramic coast of Ebayi. This retro event is an initiative for you!......Vic has had to do a hardsell to the Herald Committee for it to be accepted and like any new idea, it starts off with a nucleus of dedicated guys to get it off the ground, so please we are appealing to you.

fanievb Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 How would you easily identify a pre 1995 bike.I am keen but woukd need to get a bike from that era.+1 already started looking around Ps I take it we don't have to do Maitlands if we rock up and ride in this class? [emoji12]
Wazza_pe Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 How would you easily identify a pre 1995 bike.I am keen but woukd need to get a bike from that era.Safest and easiest would probably be to find something steel. There weren't many brands doing alu or carbon yet.If you opt for an old South African bike (Alpina, Sancini, LeJeune, Hansom etc) you're cool, and they go cheap.
HeyYou Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 OK, so how do we make this more attractive????? What would get some of you to enter?? Lucky dip prizes? Cheap accommodation? What? Give us some ideas.
Flippa Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 It's a bit far from Jhb, else I'd be there with my 1989 Daccordi Mitico.
