Thanks Orbit, will try the Blackburn cages. Eye I, I am down to 750ml for a two hour spin, so happy enough with 1 bottle for xc, but with the wines2whales I am likely to be out there a good bit longer than that so want the added fluid, but I know what you mean

ok so then you know the workings behind it.on a stage race like wines2whales the waterpoints will be well stocked.if you are not the racer type just take a few minutes extra, saturate your thirst  and refill as needed.

I.M.H.O a seatpost mounted waterbottle is a dirty bottle and is exposed to all sorts of muck.

If you want to ride with a bottle on the seat tube, go buy a TT bike.

Put the bottle in your pocket

I find bottles tend to stretch the pockets. Not so lekker.

I have a seat post bottle cage on my Stumpjumper. The secrete is to make sure your cage is high enough that your bottle fits in snugly under your seat. There must be no chance of bouncing out.

Arm warmers, spare tube, multi tool, tire levers, food, phone, gator, CO2 inflator and a water bottle? Not likely!

Sorry to intrude, but would you say top load is the best for seat post mount?

Absolutely, the design is such that the front lip grips the bottle high enough to give total security.

Only domestiques can pull off a jersey pocket bottle carry.  Not cool on the mountain.

It's also a problem with the plastic and molded cages, they tend to stretch after a while resulting in a loose fitting bottle that can fall out.  Carbon does not stretch so fit doesn't change.

Only problem is the fit is so tight is actually quite hard to pull your bottle out when riding as the angle of pull isn't square on.

+1

Just finished Dr Evil & Karoo to Coast. Carried an extra bottle on K2C but just carried one and topped up quickly at the waterpoints on Dr Evil. Costs you 20-30 seconds max.

I am keen to give one of those Carbon cages a go on the seat post. I have been through numerous Spez Ribcage cages. The hold the bottle nicely but only lasts about 2-3 month before breaking.

I have never broken a ribcage bottle cage in 3 years of using it with my Zula. Come to think of it, I usually finished the bottle on the downtube and would swop the empty bottle for a full one and leave the empty bottle on the seatpost cage. I would handle bottles on the seatpost cage max 4 or 5 times during a stage.

Well I dont know. Somehow they just dont seem to last for me. I generally do the same with swapping the bottles. I have even tried different sized bottles but still no luck.
