  1. I’ve been struck by lightning while hiking in the berg. Now whenever it looks a bit sketch and I want to go run or ride I check my lightning app and make a call based on distance. Trust me, it’s a myth that the tallest things get struck. I was struck walking down a contour path with plenty things higher than me in my immediate vicinity. Rules for staying safe: if you can find a hollow spot to hide, do that. Crouch down - do not lie down. Most people are killed from nearby strikes hitting the ground and then conducting from the ground into their bodies. If you have a backpack stand on that instead of the ground. If in doubt, don’t go out!
  2. Cool, glad you at least got some of it working. I'm sure if you play around with the Wahoo/Zwift calibration it will all come right for cadence as well.
  3. I have the tickr2X and it works with zwift. Are you on iPad? Sometimes, when it doesn’t pair, I need to open the wahoo app, pair it there and click “start activity” then I close that app and go directly into zwift (which I have open on the username page). I only have to do this like once in forever. Once I get it paired it’s usually ages before it doesn’t work again.
  4. All the stuff in Hilton is pretty unmaintained or managed so it’s hit and miss on what is clear at any given moment. Cascades is cool but I’m sure as you’ve realized is either up or down and very little in between. I would suggest you check out Trailforks for Howick/Karkloof and then you can ride some stuff and get a feel for how it fits together. There’s a Karkloof whatsapp group that updates on trail clearing so if you can get on that it’s a useful way to stay updated.
  5. Thanks Guys. I read somewhere that Bluetooth can only connect to 1 device at a time but in my Noobness I realised that my Ipad can RECEIVE more than 1 connection so should be all good. Sorta need a new HRM anyways so will just go with it and hope for the best.
  6. Hi guys, quick question regarding HRM with zwift. My zwift setup is currently: powertap hub on dumb trainer transmitting via Bluetooth to Zwift IPad app. I want to start using a HR monitor so that I can get some more data. I have Garmin HRM - Run that is Ant+ only. So my question is, if I buy a wahoo Tickr HR Monitor, will I be able to connect it to the iPad via Bluetooth or is Bluetooth only 1:1 connection? If not then I guess I need to buy an Ant+ dongle and connect to my PC?
  7. Thanks will have a look. Otherwise will browse the ladies section of Sportsman’s and see what they have.
  8. Yeah shorts are fine but some mornings when it’s frosty at 5:30 it’s nice to be a bit warmer. A bit like wearing knee warmers on the bike - make such a big difference to general warmth and aren’t restrictive.
  9. Anyone running in 3/4 tights? On these winter mornings the extra length does wonders for warmth. I’m currently running in Adidas Alphaskin 3/4 but they don’t offer much in the way of “support”. Think Salomon also have a 3/4 option but can’t find anything else online. Anything else out there specifically catering for men?
  10. Hi Guys, Firstly, think of Enduro as a different format of MTB rather than a completely different animal where you need a new bike, helmet etc.. Yes, the routes are slightly more technical than your average marathon but thats just because its a more concentrated amount of (descending) singletrack. Bike-wise your hardtail will never prevent you from riding any part of the course. There are no huge gaps or drops - but I do suggest lowering your seat a bit before dropping into a timed stage. The nice thing with enduro is its very rider-oriented. After stage 1 you will find yourself meeting up with groups of other guys who did other stages first and you can chat to them about what to expect. I suggest if you are a bit nervous, take B-lines and just enjoy being out there, you probably won't be competing for the win anyway. You can always come back another time and try out the more difficult stuff in a less time-pressured environment. Hope to see you guys there.
  11. Still on. Entries are still open on ROAG afaik.
  12. Still nothing in 2.6 or bigger thats not for the #enduro boys. Would love me an ikon 2.6 but nowhere to be found locally.
  13. 23-24 September.
  14. Entries opening soon on ROAG. You don't have to have any extra gear. The enduro light is aimed as an intro to enduro so the stages aren't too hectic. It's more to show guys what the sport is about and how cool it can be. The full enduro has some knarly bits that might warrant some knee pads if you get it wrong. First 3 stages pretty much the same EXCEPT there will be bull runs for the guys doing the full and wanting to ride the hectic stuff.
  15. IMO this wouldn't help. My mate and I were planning our attack on comrades this year and he worked out that if you just make it through the cutoffs you won't be able to finish as you will basically need to run a negative split for the last 20odd km. Which is very unlikely from a 5hr marathoner.
  16. Rather than fastest mile get guys to post current mile PR and see who improves by greatest %.
  17. That was HARD. My first comrades so didn't know what to expect. I started well and everything was on track until that pull up to the bottom of Inchanga. I ran-walked inchanga (as the 9 hour bus cruised past) and went through halfway in about 4:40. Harrison flats sucked and just drained me mentally so I was gatfol when I reached Cato Ridge. From there it was run-walk as much as I could. Was poked at the end and just missed sub10 with a 10:00:45 despite sprinting the last 2km. Definitely won't be there next year. The couch sounds like a better option.
  18. 36250 - Either a Rill Rowan or get strechered off. Whichever comes first.
  19. I'd say a big no. Unless you're driving it the wrong direction. If you have to drive Durbs-PMB-Durbs that's a looong time cramped in a car the day before you want to run.
  20. Last night I also went over my ankle, running too close to the edge of the road... I didn't dare stop to evaluate the damage, just ran it off. Seems fine this morning.
  21. So the official taper starts after this weekend. Are you guys decreasing distance and adding in some intensity or going to just keep it steady?
  22. Okay, I'll bite. All very well to say lets cut mileage but honestly where are you taking it from and why bother? 6 runs a week isn't excessive and perhaps a double sat/sun long run can be skipped, but overall I think Lindsay's programs are spot on. I'm personally doing a mix between the silver and BR, subbing in some long rides instead of a double weekender. And then I do a quality Thursday instead of a plod. But for us Novice runners, its all about mental prep. Being able to complete the weekly mileage builds confidence and that's what I'm aiming for rather than counting k's to June 4
  23. Howick trails looking great, thanks Grif.
  24. Running in NB 1080 with 8mm drop and I love them but I've never been a minimalist type of guy. They aren't super flexi but also have low enough drop to let my feet do their thing. Why don't you do more form work on your stride rather than changing shoe?
