No man - Giant doesn't guarantee enjoyment, a 140mm plus travel bike that also climbs and descends does. Get the drift this time?

And yes, I have done a stage race on a heavy AM  bike and yes the descents were more fun than the climbs, but it was the most fun and most comfortable long ride I have ever done...

mmmm still no agreement here bud...140mm does guarantee jack...it will actually piss me off to no end if I am in a racing mood but that is me...

Fun is relative, that is all I am saying. The sworks is designed to go fast over xco / xcm applications you cannot argue that...it is an awesome piece of racing kit.

Disagree. I was seriously considering a Stumpjumper 29r. Took the S-works out @ Modderfontein on one of the test days. So glad I did. Never thought about it again. The Epic is the ideal bike for most our riding. We don't have ski lifts, so I don't see the need for 120 - 140mm on a 29r. I also haven't seen (in Gauteng) rider skills like you see in the States or New Zealand...

Of course not, everyone has bought the Epic hype and thinks it takes skill to do a stage race... You don't develop superior bike handling skills riding an S Works Epic.

To give you an example...in a Nissan Trailseeker I was passing riders on their R100K+ S-Works Epics whilst on my R28K Camber Comp aluminum.  please now tell me how the S-Works is faster?

At the end of the day, the OP needs to try a different service provider see if that makes a difference. If he were to complain to Specialized SA then they would refer him back to the store or to another one of their dealers, whilst sending a mail to the owner of the store in question which will just be sent down the line again blaming the mechanic.

Apples with Apples... If YOU were on the S-works, you would have been passing YOU on the Camber Comp Alu...

HAHA true I suppose, my point is that dropping R100k on a bike doesn't instantly make you faster/more able on the trail as is often thought.

like the reference to Mr Anderson/Neo

Yes and No... Buying a 100k S-Works will Not make you an A Bunch rider when you are used to being in F, however the drop in weight, responsiveness of the carbon and the probably slightly better handling will definitely make "you" a bit "faster" than you were before.

Yep Rouxtjie...BUT I don't do nearly as much online racing as you :whistling:

you can cheat in VR...no cheating on the trails I am afraid. :) Lighter will always win given the same rider and conditions.

A situation which is a physical impossibility and therefore irrelevant. Unless you believe in magic of course...

Yes but infinitely faster? nope...that is how the Epic is being sold. "here buy this and you will be at the front!"

I dont think it gets marketed as such...an all out racing machine yes, but not a you will gain X amount of time over a course. The same way buying a V10 won't change me into Greg min. Yet they put him on all the posters as do spez with kulhavy on the epic.

Hardly impossible...take a 100 cc motor...strap it to a 10kg chassis and then to a 20 kg chassis and let it race over over a distance and throw in some gradient to boot. lighter will win bud...science is easy
