Bikes on Aeroplanes

Hi Guys

 

Anyone know if there is any recourse on ones bike getting damaged while being transported on a plane? Both my wheels were badly bent on an SAA flight back from the trirock in Durbs. It's a soft case with good padding and the wheels have their own pockets in the middle of the bag on either side. I tried to ring them today but got so frustrated holding on that I gave up. Anyone had a similar experience and managed to get any recourse?

(might be mistaken with another airline, maybe kulula; but pretty much the same thing)

With Virgin I signed a piece of paper that said they could basically do what they liked to my bike. I didn't have much choice at that point - standing at the check-in desk.

 

All was ok though and I've taken bikes back and forward a few times to the UK.

You have no chance. Same happened to me in January 2014. They offered me a letter for insurance purposes.. complete fail.

I have watched the baggage gorillas throw my bicycle onto the bagge cart along with a cello in a hard case. This at Schipol - so not just the local guys. I always insure my bike for full replacement value for the duration of my trip if flying with the bike
