FOX RLT 32 bushings replace

Hi Guys

 

My shock is leaking oil quite a bit, so apparently my stansions are worn, if i replace these, do i have to replace the bushings as well?, im just afraid of that nice suprise invoice at the end. And do i have the stansions replaced by my LBS or do i send it in for a overall (again that invoice.....) I will appreciate some advice from you guys thats been there

Is it not just the seals that are causing the leak? I think you would be able to feel if the bushings were worn?

If your seals are leaking oil your stanchions are probably still fine. If your stanchions are wearing you'll start seeing the colour of the anodising just above the bushings fading just above the seals.

 

If you can get the fork to me I'll be able to tell you pretty quickly what you're in for - either way, replacing stanchions and bushings, if needed, is far cheaper than buying a new fork, but it definitely does help to know what you're in for before that invoice arrives.

 

I'd suggest you get it assessed ASAP - if your seals have blown and your stanchions are still fine, they won't be for long.

My stanchion is just starting to wear, and I'm about to replace my seals. Will replacing the bushes extend the life of the stanchions? I'm not going to buy new stanchions for R3k, plan on riding it till its properly dead, seeing the shock only cost me R1k! Will just get a second hand Revelation when the Fox 32 dies. Still want to get as much life out the Fox as I can.

Replacing bushes on their own won't do much if the damage has already started. I seem to recall you service your own kit - if you knock the lowers off and send me a photo of the damage I'll be able to tell you if it's worth saving or if you should just run it into the ground and replace the whole thing when it seizes up properly.

 

Once the stanchions wear past a certain point it's basically pointless replacing the wipers alone, since they won't seal properly against a grooved stanchion anyway.
