How soon to start riding/training after race?

Hi Guys,

 

This may be a very noob question but I have only been cycling on and off for 2 years now and would like to know something. After a tough race (20km to 30km for me) my legs are quiet stiff and sore. The question I want to ask is: Should I jump right back in the saddle the day after or give it a day or two before I ride again?

Have a look at what the pro's do after a race or on a rest day in the TdF. They go and spin the legs out.

 

Proper stretching and a post-race sports massage may also help with the stiffness.

 

Now where did I hide that foam roller?

Active recovery is cool

Slow cadence and low powered pedal strokes for about 20-30 mins

 

Don't chase anyone that overtakes you - hehehe

Choose a flat pancake kinda route
