Switching to dual suspension

So I'm still relatively new to mountain biking and got an entry level 29 HT last year.

I destroyed the drive train quickly, replaced it with X7 2x10 groupset. Replaced the suntour fork with a decent Fox float. Destroyed the Alex rims wheels, got some ZTR flows built up for it. Replaced the handlebars and stem with more trail/enduro style too. Have started changing brakes out too, getting 180mm rotors etc.

The point being, I've got OK components on a basic HT frame, and as I grow in confidence I'm getting more rowdy and like hitting the technical stuff.

I'm thinking of switching over the components to an ok dual suspension frame for a bike thats going to forgive some of my rougher landings a bit more and I can swing around a tight switchback a little more fluid.

Looking for something thats going to be fun and still able to do XC (sub 60km races, I like beer way too much) through to Enduro (which I want to try in 2015).

In my dreams I'm thinking Santa Cruz Tallboy or Rocky Mountain altitude. However, reality dictates that price would have to be under 10K (ideally 7k) which I think will limit my choices somewhat.

Cheers for any tips for a frame that would fit the bill.

Looking for something similar myself - have a 100mm scott spark 29er now but thinking something more enduro

Also destroyed my alexrims and replaced with Flows

Yeti SB95 frame is a top contender at the moment - but even thats 20k+ landed

Bit more for the Tallboy LT

Hoping that something will pop up in the classifieds...

Might you be interested in a Scott spark frame?  :whistling:

Cheers, but think we're both headed towards more trail/enduro oriented frames

Buying a frameset alone is difficult. Most of the less boutique brands don't provide framesets. The boutique brands are costly. As a result the final build always ends up expensive. Second hand is best bet but your gonna have to be patient for something you like and is well priced. Maybe one of the hubbers here has a contact tho and can get you a nice deal!

Are you going to transfer your components over to a new frame or build up a complete 2nd bike? This affects your strategy :

If building a 2nd bike then your current HT can do XC duty quite well and you can go for a m7ch more relaxed enduro type full sus frame with 120 to 140 mm travel.

If transferring then your 1 bike must tick all boxes and a XC/trailbike frame designed for 100mm to 120mm might suit you better .

Hoping I can switch components over to a new frame. My current fork is 120mm so hoping that qualifies it for the type of frames I'm after?

If I could afford to build a new bike and maintain 2 bikes, would keep 29er HT and go for a 27.5 dual sus.

What size frame are you?

That Turner Sultan is pretty damn good deal!

Medium. Will keep an eye on that. It may be a month or so (weird pay cycle) before I can drop the cash though, getting research in now.

I think I've changed my mind, how do I get one of these (on-one don't ship to SA according to site). 29er trail HT optimised for 120mm fork! Looks like fun
