just what we will need. Where will we find such a cable?? tx

bidorbuy has a few, it should be a usb female to usb mini-b OTG cable

If you know your way around a soldering iron and heat shrink you can build yourself one.

Easy peezy.

The difference between the special charge cable (OTG) and a normal one is a single little pull-down resistor between the GND and SENSE pins of the mini USB point.

I think I used a 47k ohm, if memory serves.

I picked my little 1000mAh power pack up at CP2 and charged my Garmin Edge 500 for an hour (carried them in my camelback), I then pumped the remaining power into my action cam. The Garmin still had lots of life left when I finished.

Okay......so! train for nutrition requirements, look for a usb female to usb mini-b OTG cable so I can recharge my Garmin because I definitely won't be in under 15hrs, start getting my mind in tune with the many hours in the saddle...not that I have a problem training distance., nothing like starting the visualization process even though 360 is 4.5 months away....Thanks to all for some of the advice so far.... appreciate it....

its a long route to "visualize" how much time do you allow for this process

I believe very strongly in the power of visualisation but the 36One is a difficult race to do that ,there are just to many unknowns that can happen during the night and day.

This year we had a BIG poffie refusing to get out of the way, impossible to visualise.

If anything I would visualise the start, the 3 check points and the end.

Just my 2 cents worth

How will you guys ensure that your gps units run the full 361km? Just my tip on what I will be using  ^_^

Ride fast - and no loafing at water points, despite the rather appealing snacks and liquid refreshments on offer.

I don't think you can visualise a race like this. It's like trying to get your head around any large and strange number.

But...

It is four 90km races, back to back. And there are 3 water points per race, so, it's just a whole bunch of water points 30kms apart. Ride water point to water point. Do the basics - eat, drink, listen to your bike, your body, and your brain. Don't over think it. The less you think about your overall progress the quicker the kilometres will fly by.

This race, like most endurance events, isn't about the first 3 quarters. It's about getting to the last quarter in good shape, and then seeing what the legs, body and mind have left.

Last year I followed a training program I found on fittrac. It worked just fine. Also it is for free if you are a Momentum member.

Firstly don't plan on much sleep the day of the start. Firstly it's daytime, secondly you have registration and lunch and so on. So get plenty of rest the night before.

We only ate at the water points and check points and the odd race fuel. The 180 check point has awesome food. We also put a second set of kit into the 180 box. That way you have a new bib to try protect your butt.

Taping an amped charger to your top tube will take care of charging your gps ( this can also be put in the 180 box and dropped off again at Carletsdorp). We only used our big lights on the descents and a decent head lamp for the rest.

Rooiberg is hectic, but the guys are right. The climbing only ends at 311km, having said that even the little undulating hills in the last 20km seem like a push after 20 hrs.

For me the biggest issue was my hands and butt, and the battle in your head in the early morning hrs when you our there alone.

At the end of the day when I was done (20hrs 20min) I promised I would NEVER do it again. But hey, I'm entered for 2015.

Oh, and know that you are going to eat like pig for three days after.

...for us rookies.....tell us a little more about Rooiberg?.....sounds like a mysterious task needed completion to win the "prize".... :whistling:

It sneaks up on you, and then beats you up for an hour as you think every corner is the last. We did it in complete darkness (and I was in a dark place as it was), and it just seemed to go on and on and on. The only thing you can see are the lights of those ahead of you, looking like low flying planes or UFOs, taunting you from above.

The back markers went up there in 40 degrees,it is 13km's long and last year the descent was not a nice expierence especially on a HT.Also the stage of the race when it hits you.you have already 200+km's in your legs

The Rooiberg decent was actually the highlight of my race :)

Crested it as the sun stuck it's head out over the horizon, then bombed down there on my trusty Anthem 26er in the golden morning sun. Smile almost went right around my head :D

I actually captured the whole Rooiberg decent on my action cam... Just haven't gotten around to edit or put it on the TOOB.

Kay, I had to remote in to my laptop at home to get it done. So quality isn't there, but this should give you an idea of the Rooiberg decent
