wearing your soles with flat pedals...

I got a pair of Five Ten Freerider shoes today (which cost a pretty penny) and went for a first ride this afternon.  Its not massive, but there are some marks where the pedal studs make contact with the shoe.  It's nothing to lie awake about, but I can imagine that if wear is visible after a 1 hour ride, that there could be a problem in a few months time.

I have a relatively cheap set of Giant flat pedals but the studs don't seem much different to other pedal brands (e.g. saint) from the pictures that I googled.

am I just paranoid with my shoes being new, or is it a concern?  Should I maybe take a file and soften up the stud edges?

Its pretty normal, you'll get some scratches. Compared to normal sneakers which get shredded in a week.

Also have Five tens and have proper screws on my nukeproof peddles, not studs. The stealth rubber on Five tens are much more resilient than normal shoes, so don't think much to worry about.

I've never particularly ripped up the soles of the shoes I use for cycling from pedal spikes, over the life of the shoe holes will develop where your spikes are but the grip stays about constant.

Can't see you going wrong with those shoes!

Lol, ride your bike.... The marks will settle over time and you'll get used to them. It's like buying new tyres and not wanting to ride a rock garden... It's not the pedals. It's just your mind.

Had no problems with fivers and nukeproof flatties. Check that the pedals don't have to long a pin; don't need knitting needles for the fivers to stick.
