Seat shock absorber

I am no expert , but wonder if it will be possible to have a seat that can be locked ( like your shock) and released and act like a shock absorber. So instead of a dual suspension bike you have a seat that can move up and down or be locked out.

What will be the pros and cons or perhaps prevent this completely from being a solution ?

In the end you want your bumm to be spared the impact of the shock on the bike

Uhm... It's been around for some time, on a duallie it's obviously useless, on a hardtail you could possibly get more comfort from bigger rubber running lower pressure?

Problem with seatpost shock is that bike set up is constantly changing. What starts as the correct seatpost height varies with every bump, big or small. This can lead to unnecessary set up strains and/or injuries. Tried but not trusted.

It does seem like dual suspension bikes are becoming more popular and certainly a space where lots of innovation and technology will play a role in the next few years.

Should you really be sitting down when the going is rough...?

Got a thudbuster on my 29er dirt roadie machine, helps with out corrugated roads.

The thudbuster LT is the best of the suspension seatposts.

BUT it doesn't replace a dually, just makes the hardtail more comfortable. I wouldn't buy any of the cheaper suspension seatposts as the setup changes.

Thats what she complains about the corrugated small bumps, that on a dual you don't even feel. What does the thudbuster Lt cost ? sounds like what I'm after. Are they significantly heavier than a normal seatpost?

They are heavier, but i don't know how much. I'm no weight weenie, i ride a steel bike after all ;).

Have a look at Chain reaction, or try the local Cane Creek agents

R2400 bit pricey. I've had mine for years, and it just goes from bike to bike.

so they reliable obviously . Still cheaper than buying her a duallie :-))

Well made, I've replaced the elastomers once and the bushes. There was a period of about 2 years when i didn't use it as I had the dually, but is being used again. I've got a 27.2mm post, and use shims to fit it to my bikes seat tube, which are all bigger.
