Long Route (47km): for advanced cyclists

The trail starts at Brandvlei Cellar (BC Wines) and moves along single track and jeep track roads in a southerly direction. The first 7 km is easy with a moderate climb. The trail runs along the Doorn River and Moddergat mountains where you will be treated to breath-taking surroundings.

Up to about 12 km the route is quite easy and here you will find the first water point. This is followed by two fairly steep climbs. At this point the trail runs along the foot of the mountains. The remainder of this section (up to about 25 km) passes through vineyards, peach and apricot orchards. The climbs are pretty short but steep enough to make it challenging. The second water point is located at the 25 km mark.

The last section of the trail consists of two reasonably steep climbs. The first is short but very steep while the second is known as the “Epic Bult” and is fairly lengthy and steep. The view however makes it thoroughly worthwhile. The “Epic Bult” ends with a “hair raising” downhill and then there is one last small hill before you finally enter the vineyards, following more or less the same route as the first 5 km back to the cellar.

Medium Route: 25km – aimed at all level of fitness and ability

Short Route: 10km – aimed at children. You are also welcome to run this route

Showers will be available after your ride.

Prizes: All prizes will be distributed in the form of a lucky draw. Lucky draws include a bicycle (Merida Mountain Bike), a game drive from Fairy Glen Game Reserve and variety of other bicycle and wine related prizes. All proceeds will be donated to the three farm schools around Brandvlei Cellar as well as to the Sean Kelly Training Centre in Worcester.

Yip. Well done organizers.

This was quite a tough race and quite technical, with lots of short steep rocky climbs.

I will be back next year!

Only problem I had was where the 25km & 45km split.

The marking for the 45km turn off was not in the right place.

Most guys doing the 45 went straight on doing the last bit of the 25km route.

I wasn't happy seeing guys who was behind me, already having a Coke at the finish.

But other than that, it was a tough, technical race and I enjoyed it very much.

I second that.

I was very ticked off with myself when I finished realizing I did not do the full race and immediately reported it to the Racetec guys.  To top it off my Garmin was messing about and I thought I only did 25km and asked them to drop my time to the 25km results but after uploading it I saw I actually did do 39km so I've send Racetec a followup query.  Lets see what they do, at least one result should get pulled/amended although I suggested they investigate at least the majority of the top spots.

And for those who did not do the race here is the turnoff in question and it should also be noted that this is at the bottom of a little descent so you're hitting this at speed...
