Things I have learned from this experience:1. Paul in Joburg can morph into Phil in George in a nanosecond; and2. When shopping for your own birthday present, stay away from OLX!

Haha, spot on. Almost a mirror image of my conversation with the ****!! Asked him where I can come and collect it and will pay cash......suddenly he's in George.

 

 

Will avoid OLX, had a feeling this was a load of sh*t anyway.

I would like to inform you that before I knew about the hub I successfully purchased two bikes on Gumtree. A nice 26'' carbon Felt MTB and my current Merida.

 

I don't know if it was beginners' luck or that I just asked the right questions about the bike. Oh and I live in Potchefstroom, but couriered both bikes from Cape Town area...

one of my colleagues was caught out but somehow he managed to get his money back via a contact at absa.

 

if you dump the contact number in google and do a search all the adds under that number will show however some will be under a different name and location.

It was probably a hubber that had advertised on there as well as on the hub, hence the reason you didn't get screwed. He might have had less than 1000 posts so he could only sell to certain people

Went to Garmin yesterday, they were very helpful. They basically did a master reset on my Edge 500 device (plugged my unit into some gadget). Also told me the software is up to date. However I told the technician I've already done that several times but still have the altitude "jumping around" problem.He told me to give it one more try and maybe the barometric altimeter needs to be cleaned out? Suppose they should have just done that.

 

Bottom line: They said if the unit was still under warranty they would just given me a new one there and then. It isn't under warranty so they told me I could pay in R1700.00 and get a brand new unit (and keep the old one).

 

Probably going to get the Edge 810 anyway so didn't bother with that for now. Will give it another try and see what happens.

Good point guys, good old Google! Didn't need to Google this oke though....the moment he replied to my mail and suddenly he's no longer in JHB but now in George, I new it was BS.

 

Sent him a choice email yesterday (not that he cares) which cant be repeated here.
