28h 29er rim choice

This could well be posted in the buyers forum- my Giant Anthem's rear rim has decided enough of my onslaught, and is starting to split on the weld. (PXC1)

Suggestions on replacement rims, 29er 28 hole (which seems to limit my choices drastically) I weight in at 100kg; although no Greg Minnaar on downhills I do put a lot of stress on the bike.

Been looking at E thirteen's.

Any suggestions on who might stock options and rough costs (western cape) not to keen to spend more cahs at CRC.

Cheers

Save yourself the trouble down the line and replace the hubs at the same time. Go 32 or even 36 hole and get them built properly by a decent wheelbuilder.

Beat me to it!  The only local suppler of 28 hole rims that I have found are DT Swiss (ScottSA the agent).  By the time you get them to your bike shop you will be looking at around R1000 ea for the pinned ones and R1500 for the welded ones.  Adding in the new spokes and labour you may as well buy a hub and get a good wheel built on a strong rim that should not cost more than R800 to R1000.

Ya, and DT rims in my experience are made of cheese. Add a clyde and a 28 spoke wheel and it'll explode in pretty short order.

I have a pair of Dt swiss rims that i took off my spark 920. i replaced them with stans crest rims and was actually able to use the same spokes. If you are interested PM me so i can go look for them in attic.

Don't bother with 28H, get 32 spoke wheels and I would say don't even go for Stans rims. Even the Arch...or for that matter DT Swiss, unless they are the freeride rims then don't waste your time. The DT rims are generally too narrow and hence buckle easliy. Get yourself some Magic rims and lace them onto a good quality hub.

The Magics can take quite a bit more spoke tension than most rims and they are only 30-40grams more than an Arch, and when you are 100kg or more rather have strong stout wheels that can last.

The Magic rims are sourced from the Ex-DT Swiss agent DDP Tech, he devotes his whole business to quality wheel parts and does not bring in super light stuff that doesn't last...

Oh Yes he has Magic rims in 28H as well if you really want to go that route...
