Duties on wheelset from CRC?

Been looking about the various threads on importing and costs.

I was hoping that someone who's bought a wheelset recently from CRC could let me know exactly what duties they had to pay for and if std delivery is even an option with the current strikes.

Figuring I have to pay:

- vat @ 14% (of actual cost?)

- handling fees (?) does this happen with DHL as well?

There seems to be a lot of info out there that should be rock solid but people still get shocks when the kit arrives!

Yes it does.

I have ordered numerous items from CRC and had to pay directly to DHL for the clearance. Once you pay DHL they release the item in question. Some advice I would give though is follow the tracking. Once the item arrives at the airport call DHL and get them cleared ASAP or you could wait and extra day or 2. Not a big deal but you pay for speedy delivery so may as well get it.

Two years back I got my wheels from CRC. Used standard delivery option which was free and delivery time was quick even though it was late November/early Dec. No hassles. Charges were 15% (VAT plus a little extra for SARS) plus a small fee of R150 or something like that which was a SAPO admin charge, if I remember right. Landed cost was better than anything I could get locally. Today, I'd say, either wait till the backlog of post is dealt with... or rather use DHL.

I ordered / bought Eastons from CRS before.

Take pound price, convert to Randela's.

add 14% VAT

add R110 Custom's duty

Outside of this is the shipping cost, PS avoid SAPO... rather use tracked courier option.

I am busy putting a bike together and have done 4 shipments including rims from merlin cycles none of which had any duties.

I did dhl shipping fom crc and ups from Merlin cycles both were 40 pounds and both took about a week but ups did not have a tracking number.

On all the orders I paid VAT and handling the handling was around  R150 I think.

Thanks for the info. Probabaly going to have to leave it in the hands of tracked Post office as the dHL price is nearly a 1/4 of the overall price.
