  1. I did send a message but he never got back.
  2. Please let us know if it's not eye watering. I'm looking for a new Ti frameset.
  3. Sorry to spam this thread (and a few HT others) but I'm looking for a good steel / ti hardtail and have posted wanted ad but thought I'd post here incase someone knows someone knows someone. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bike-frames/410570/looking-4-a-trail-enduro-hardtail-frame-medium
  4. Buil. Nico Portal is a great DS without a dipping past. There are a lot of hang overs from the bad days but also a lot that aren’t tarred by that brush. People scoffed at sky when they made sure none of the staff and DS had doping pasts (bye bye Yates) but seems you can have a good coaching Team without a dirty past and not shrug shoulders saying ‘that’s just the way it is.
  5. It is a bit of a mess for sure but I've never really had too much difficulty understanding the system. The way I look at it is that the permits and wild cards gain me access to the National Park. I pay / donate to TokaiMTB for the MTB specific trails which are granted to be built on TMNP land. You can happily ride in the various parts of TM on roads that aren't built by the hard working people in TokaiMTB and the rest (mass respect goes out to them and the bureaucratic nightmare that must be even before a shovel breaks the ground). Of course the roads you can ride are very normal jeep track but that is what it is. We're a specific sporting niche along with all the other users on the mountain. TMNP Authorities are more about protection and rehabilitation as far as I can see. Of course things like riding the tar road from Cape Point needing a permit is just a bit crazy but then there are a lot of tour companies sending people off and bikes and using that road to make money. If I crayfish there I need a certain permit, if I crayfish off a canoe I need an additional one. Go figure. Honestly it's not an expensive yearly cost for what you get. 1 x permit, 1 x membership to TokaiMTB and a couple of donations. It's still cheaper than Tygerberg from what I remember and a lot better trails, it's cheaper than that tyre you wanted to try out, those new shorts that match your frame and cost per ride is pretty good. What annoys me is actually the people on here who soapbox their annoyance and then ride trails in that same National Park that aren't allowed on a regular basis, the same guys who are illegally cutting and riding new trails up around Blockhouse, Rhodes Memorial and others but that's okay because that's being core. It's not a given right that we have this access and to be honest those riders are part of the problem and hamper all the good work being done by a very small few for the benefit of a huge amount of others. It's not perfect at all but there are a lot of different priorities and stakeholders in the picture so I'm pretty grateful for what we have and thankful to all who have got us here.
  6. Ugly but in a great way. Odd looking but just because it’s different. Everything lines up is well thought out and seems to kick ass. Kinda like it in a weird preying mantis way.
  7. Nice rims and glad they are backing themselves with the warranty. Would have hoped that the prices would have come down a bit now they cut out the middle man but still good value overall for a local made product. On par with the likes of We Are One Composites out of Kamloops in Canada and (in my opinion) the gold standard of that segment of the market.

    Mark Cavendish

Past his peak when he went to TDD? Classic, those 4 stages in the 2016 tour must have been those ‘odd wins’ you’re thinking of.
  9. Nice. Can’t wait for mine.
  10. Anyone seen a dissectior in SA yet?
  11. Also the whole black trail needs to be fixed. I think we need some reds added in. Cobra in Tokai isn’t a black but it’s not a blue like super tubes. Hogga’ Cobra is a joke and not a black. DH0 is a black, plumber is a black AM should be a red and so on.
  12. Flying / floating and hovering show a level of skill. Steaming and plowing is what you can get away with on other trails around Cape Town and kid yourself. A lot of people with longer travel rides seemed to be relying on that today and in those trails you will come up short. Having seen some of the top guys go through today they were not not plowing through, they were hauling ass.
  13. I want this to be my next trail bike. Obviously I'd have to be unlock and get my current bike stolen as it's on the upper side of $$$ but it looks like it would would be amazeballs. I'd swap out for a beefier fork though.
  14. The fox 36 with the grip 2 is amazing nt sure what the performance is using. The Dpx2 is a better rear shock but I like the Lyrik a lot. Shame you can’t mix n match. Brake wise i’d Just sell either and get some Curas or some TRPs. Drivetrain, XT is a personal favorite but nothing wrong with GX. Sram does seem a bit more maintenance at times. I’ve ridden both the strive and the spectral and you can’t go wrong. The spectral is more rowdy trail and the strive is a great choice too. It’s not as much of a sled as a lot of the bikes it’s up against so is surprisingly useable day to day. Just pick one and have fun, both models are great value and a good spec’. The local Canyon dealers aren’t even getting close with their ex demo prices.
  15. I also rode today covered a lot with plumber, Zulu, iron and Armageddon. I thought i’d Been getting fitter for this with some mast efforts but am bleery broken tonight. Plus I seem to have developed a numb left hand 20 minutes into a ride but genuinely I am broken.
  16. They always have pro frames at great discounts. I still don’t k ow why I haven’t bought one. Actually I do. I’ve got a Uvex convertible helmet and used the chin bar 1 time in 2 years.
  17. Ohhhhh Columbus tubing. So good. So beautiful.
  18. Hold thumbs for Black Friday discounts!
  19. I took it as which riders would be picked up not who deserved to be there. Cav's performance outside of his own quotes wouldn't get him into many teams but he's still got the profile, the sponsor connections and media spotlight that will probably add enough benefit to go with much lower salary expectation. I'd imagine you'd see him in the WT next year.
  20. u You forgot Cav’. Love him of hate him, he would / will find a WT team (and is still part of the team) so should be added to that list.
  21. I’m with you, no need, if you’ve got a good 29’r then there is no benefit. Sure if you have baby wheels and a bit scared of leaving the 650b crèche and want to dabble I guess there is some benefit. It’s still a sexy little number though.
  22. As well. My Renthal fat bar (non carbon) was unbelievably stiff. It was good on my previous ally frame but was too much when I got a carbon frame. felt like my wrists were ready to shatter.
  23. But that's just buying and selling. You were interested in it because it was a good price but not enough to make the purchase and someone else did and if it the usual guys here then they offered a lot lower than the asking price (and the person took it). I've missed out on things because I umm'd and ahh'd and I've scored bargains because I bought them when I saw them.
  24. What happens is you find them in the classifieds 2 months later still for sale or with *Price Drop* getting reposted. TBH if you buy those ones and you've seen the banged up junk that they are pedalling then it's your fault.
  25. I want those grips. Where did you get them?
