Disk choice - C-lock or Bolt?

Does anyone know what the pros and cons are here of C-LOCK vs Bolt on disks?

Are the calipers cross compatable?

Thanks

The calipers are cross-compatible. Your choice will normally be limited by the hubs that you have, although you can get adaptors.

I suspect that the only advantage of c-lock rotors is that they are easier to take on and off.

Just a rumour I know but I heard that the centre lock ones develop play where the rotor is sort of 'rivetted' onto the 'locking' mechanism.

Haven't seen it myself so take it from whence it came I guess ......

I think the centerlock rotors are also a bit stiffer than most 6-bolts. My XTR centerlocks are definitely stiffer than my Marta wavy rotors, which require occasional "tuning"

Hope could not fix this problem so they started calling it "floating rotors" LOL

No just kidding. I would also like to know the answer as I need to think about this.

TitusTi - yip as I said I never heard or seen it from anyone else so was quite surprised at the comment at a bikeshop but as these things are he probably only had 6 bolt and was trying to 'steer' someone in that direction?

CentreLock is easier to work with and easier to tighten uniformly.  Been using CentreLock hubs with 6-bolt rotors and adapters for the past 2 years or so.  If you already have a lockring tool, your are already equipped to install and uninstall centrelock rotors easily and quickly.

I have XTR Centre lock rotors from 2003. They are stil stiff and have never developed play. This rumour was probably started by the same person who goes around telling people that Lefty's are weak..

Advantages of Centre LocK are:

Easier to fit

Loosening bolts won't destroy your hub since the spline maintians even pressure distribution.

No bolts to snap or strip the head.

stiffer rotors
