Strava on data roaming?

Did this in Bahrain last week.

roaming off, mobile data off, open Strava, wait for gps signal to go green and start. stick phone back into pocket.

Once you're done, stop, connect to hotel wifi and sync.

No mobile data costs.

As i've still got my old iPhone, I got a prepaid sim while i was there with data loaded, used that as a hotspot for when i needed internet access while out and about.

Didn't have to turn on mobile data roaming at all while I was there.

One thing to watch, you need a Premium strava account to download the gpx file afterwards, so if you're planning on uploading the route you did to other platforms, you might need to look at something else.

I've done 3 Euro trips running strava.

Switch Cellular data off and use the wifi in the hotel.

I also use the Endomondo app with the gps on and the data off.  Once I'm finished riding I switch the data on for a few minutes and bingo the file is loaded on the Endomondo site.  From there I export the files to strava on the pc.   I use less than 200mb a month on my phone, and I log five rides a week.  Cheap cheap!

According to what I just read in GOOGLE no it doesn't it uses the phones gps you can switch data roaming off on your phone and it will record your ride and you can upload later.

Seemingly airplane mode is not good as it also turns off the gps .....

With an iPhone 5 your ride will not record in airplane mode!

FLAME SUIT ON

firstly the strava part is only to track my distances and spread of my rides, no I don't have a GPS I sold it, and I am def. Not going for any KOMS ;)

What I do know is every time I go overseas my cell phone account is already stoopid money so I can imagine a couple of hours riding will HURT??? That's the question does anyone know the COSTINGS FOR A FACT on STRAAAAVA when you on data and cell/network roaming???

Last thing I want when I come back is an even bigger cell account

OK GO"..............

Another el'cheapo option maybe?

I could be wrong but you cannot roam data from our networks. While roaming you can basically call and sms and then obviously gps and WiFi but cellular data does not roam.

So it should not give you a massive bill once you return!
