No training for me for 10 days now.  Chest still very tight and sore....started my 2nd course of antibiotics yesterday.

Just hope i can better soon, else i might have to support and not take part.  All i am hoping for now is to get better and healthy enough to start the race.  will just have to suffer a bit more on the day but dont want to start if i might cause more harm than good :(

Heal up quick ...must be frustrating... but there is still a lot of time so hoping you make the start. Training done so if you feel good then go for it. if not and I hope that's not the the case, 2016 is always there.

Good luck

Thanks.  Will be my 3rd, so I know that i can suffer on the day and get through it.  Will definitely be under trained.  Biggest focus is now to get better....to be heatlhy enough to start.  If my chest clears I will definiteky be on the beach come race day.  will just have to take it a bit easier :)

Good luck to everyone....stay healthy and enjoy the last few days before the big day.

Good vibes to you. I have started the lovely tapering period myself  - if only I could get my appetite to taper as well.  Some real discipline required from now on.

Last weekend wasn't very big either. Did about 120km on the bike and 6km swim, still nursing a little bit of an running injury, so no running last weekend. About 8 hours to do this week and 4 hours race week.

Just a question. What is an average time to finish the event in?

Also i am considering doing the Ironman next year as one of my goals. WOuld someone mind giving me a very basic version of your normal training week?  I know each person is different and everyone has different strengths etc. but i would like to gauge the training hours needed (roughly speaking of course)

Buy Joe Friel's Going Long. Avg time to finish on that course: 13hrs-16hrs about.

I would imagine the 50th percentile is around 13:45 ..average time prolly close to the same. easy enough to check using actual results.

my basic training program is : 15-18 hours a week as follows:

3 swim sessions = 3 hours

3 run sessions   = 3 hours

1 cycling session = 5 hours

spin sessions x 2 per week  = 4 hours

then if there are weekend races I may do more...

this is my very basic schedule , very flexible and some weeks I do more running or swimming and less of this or that ..... being primarily from an open water background I tend to favour swimming

More than welcome.

Not very scientific but I have purposefully avoided the scientific route. I am not an athlete by any stretch of the imagination and struggle with the run and did initially with the cycle but its getting better. Since I decided to do iron man back on 1 march 2014 I have done the following mileage

Swim +- 300km's

Run - +- 1150 km's

Cycle +- 5500 km's

I also do the odd pilates class and bugger around abit swimming with my lad.

with the above training I have a sub 6 PB for half iron man (ultra distance) , a 2:06 PB for a half marathon, and did 94.7 in 3:25 and an Olympic distance PB of 2:44 ... I anticipate an IM time of around 14 hours dependent on wind. my goal is not to win but to finish.

Been a hellova journey thus far , in the shape of my life ..

your input is very valuable. I have lost my mojo a bit for cycling and struggle to get myself onto the bike since Sani last year.  i kinda figured i need to set myself a goal to work to and it was either ironman/Epic/J2c. I have started running and am comfortable with a 5km. Been a swimmer and done a few Midmar's so i kinda figured Ironman would be a nice challenge.

long term weather forecast reckons scattered shower with wind.... up to 37 mph .... south westerly...

we wait n see and no profit in being glued to the weather stations but just cant help it :cursing:

I have learnt not to trust the weather.  Also been keeping an eye out over the past 2 days, but it will definitely change before then.

Lets just hope for teh best and take what comes on the day :)

Haha ya I also saw that! Been checking every day. Let's hope for the best. Changed from westerly one day to easterly the next the other day so can't really trust it. The only constant was a cool day at 21 degrees
