So I'm out riding the local trails, fall over and break my arm, ER visit is R4.5k after all is said and done will this bundled insurance cover me?

I highly doubt it, else it'll be abused no end, probably must be injuries sustained at a Csa event where there will need to be a written record of the incident to it to be eligible for the insurance to pay out.

 Checks and balances...

Similar principle to having to have a case number in order to claim for stolen goods....and even then some proper investigation to determine if its a valid claim or Nkandla fire pool justification

Yes it will cover you for that. It is an accidental medical expenses insurance product

Looking at the CSA website this seems as if it is NOT a medical aid, but rather medical insurance. quite different, so there should not be any issues with your current medical aif service provider and fraud etc.

Correct it is not a medical aid and will cover a person anytime they have an accident on a bike and go to hospital. I phoned and checked with them.

Sorry, haven't read the whole thread.

I just want to find out what licence I need to race XCO provincials and possibly a national or 2 this year? Milky looked like he had a blast last year so I am going to try join in on the fun.

Thanks

IMO, the single fee, affiliated to your Province ideal will only result in all fee's being bumped up to R75. Personally I am VERY happy with what KZN MTB does for R50..in fact I would be happy to pay more.

I too am happy with KZN MTB, we get to ride Cascades for "free" because of them

When you apply for a domestic racing license you just select whatever disciplines you want to ride (road/mtb/track/etc)

According to the "Policy Wording" under exclusions, item 5.

the Insured Person riding a Pedal Cycle whilst engaging in racing or speed or duration tests of any kind as a professional, or whilst being used for any purpose other than that for which it was built;

Do CSA not facilitate racing? So, CSA events are not included then? Why do we need this cover again?

Because someone owns shares in the company?

No-one will ever be able to claim.

Are you a professional cyclist ? If so I doubt that you need worry about the insurance offered.

Or..are you planning on using a pedal cycle for a use it was not intended?

If anyone competing in any race crashes they will not be able to claim, professional or not.

Not my understanding when reading the above quoted passage.

Or are you assuming that only professionals race  ?  Or referring to a different passage than the quoted one?

apologies, I did not read clearly.

I agree with your view.

I would like to know what the insurance company classifies as a professional though, someone who races for a living?

I'm sure CSA would agree that even professionals need cover sometimes.

Good question that ...what does the insurance company regard as a professional ? I would assume that it means someone who is paid to cycle as a profession...but we all know that insurance companies love their own definitions!

I would also agree that professionals need cover..but can see the logic against excluding them in this regard (although don't necessarily agree with the logic). Professional cyclists expose themselves to potential cycling related danger on a more regular basis and at a higher risk potential than non-professionals. This leads to more risk exposure..which means higher insurance premiums. If I was being charged the same premium as a professional but had a lower risk categorization then that would not be kosher.

I also assume that professionals are covered either by their own insurance or their employer (ie sponsor). Doubt there are any professionals out there who haven't insured themselves sufficiently. Is it CSA's responsibility to ensure that the pro cyclist has cover ? No..I dont think so.
