Who is doing the Gravel and Grape in April? The inaugural Gravel & Grape 3-day MTB Challenge is taking place from 24 – 27 April 2015.

My only gripe is why do organizers inst on planning events that clash? This race clashes with the TransKaroo as well as the Joberg 2 Sea.

If we had less than 52 events in a year it would be possible to not have any clash. I think that it is safe to say that the overlap for riders that would do Joberg2C vs Gravel and Grape is less than 25%, and TransKaroo its probably less than 15%, measured from the riders who enter Gravel and Grape instead of the other 2. Day 1 looks like a proper day of riding, day 2 and 3 hopefully will allow for some family time.

I am in for Gravel and Grape as it is close to home and it fits in with what is always a very busy period at work (listed companies AFS needs to be published within 3 months of year end, so no one on my Financial Team gets leave from Feb until end of May, me included).

Trans Karoo sounds too much like Trans Baviaans for me and I prefer the timing of the Trans Baviaans.

A race is only as hard as the competitors make it. So if the strong riders are elsewhere the quality of the field will be less.

That said; J2C is a fun ride, so is the Transkaroo to be honest. Just look at the field, granted J2C is starting to get a stronger field. But that is my point, as races progress and get known for the quality of the route  etc, they start to become races; however the dates will not change so then the date clashes become an issue.

I seldom race my competitors. From previous encounters in this valley I know that the terrain needs to be conquered before any competitors are even a consideration.

J2C is oversubscribed already, so another race is not a major crash.  Would like to do the Trans Karoo with my son one day maybe.

G&G: well, looking at the route it seems to be a winner, though you can still expect very hot (40+) days in that darn valley in April.  So it might not be as easy as it seems at first glance.

I paddled a Nekkies - Alfies in April 2 years back, and by the time I finished at around 11h00 it was already bloody hot.

Not that specific route; the Breede river is there, but for a man of your skill sets it might put you to sleep.  The Breede is usually used for some novice paddling, although it can get hectic in mid-winter.  You paddle from around the dam to the south-east.

I remember the Breede race with much fondness for the crystal clear snow melt water and the great hospitality of the farming folk. The MTB race is going to bring back memories. How is the Duzi training going? Less than a month to go.

Whom of you guys that entered are camping in goudini? Had my eye on this race for some time now.

Vrydag geneem.....

Training in tatters.  My red Lancer has become invested by all sort of leaves and spiders.  My coach/training partner sold his shop and gave up paddling because of financial troubles, so now I am without a training partner and the accompanied second.  Without that it is basically tickets, and we don't have a nice river or dam nearby.  I will have to sort something out though.

Maak my sommer moerig as mense dit doen.
