I have been doing this for as long as I have had a bicycle. And you know what, I occasionally jump red lights at night in Hillbrow. Am I doing the image of cyclists harm? Certainly not in Hillbrow at night and certainly not breaking the speed limit because the motorist on the road are doing the same speed as me. Can I get killed doing it? Absolutely, I am well aware of the risk. Will I stop doing it? No, because it is within the limits of my perception of risk and fear. Do I pose a serious risk to other road users? Perhaps a minor risk, but in my opinion not a serious risk to others. Do I do it because this is a lawless country and I know I will get away with it? Absolutely not, this is a worldwide activity. Why do I do it? I do it for the rush, the adrenalin, the camaraderie, and that is what I want to capture on film. Is it controversial, well clearly it is on this forum seeing the storm and backlash it has generated. Can I defend it? No.So call me what you want, call me a ****, an asshole, an idiot, illogical, brainless, suicidal, a kamikaze rider on tik, tell me how soon I am going to die, whatever you want, it does not worry me as I am old enough not to care about other peoples opinion of me, but the real irony of these posts is that I am quite open about how I ride a bicycle, I am not ashamed of it, but the rest of you are just so pious and sanctimonious about how you ride your bicycle that you cannot even see that you, your wife, your mates whatever, do way more dangerous things on a daily basis.
