Hi there hubbers, I know there are a bunch of other threads on this topic, I have had a look at them but there isnt anything addressing what I am looking for.

What I am looking for:

1. A WATCH

2. HRM

3. GPS

4.VALUE FOR MONEY (budget 2k-3k)

looking to do just cycling and gym, I dont run or swim. I dont have to have elevation on hand (excuse the pun).

I know people will say that I should get a bike GPS unit and use my phone in gym but I am looking for something I can upload for discovery vitality and I dont want to have to put a bulky ant+ sensor pluss adaptor for lightening connector on the end of my phone.

Any advice/reviews/links to reviews would be much appreciated.

I recently treated myself to a Polar M400 for Christmas Been working great and cannot promote it enough. Use it for both gym and cycling!

DC Rainmaker rates it as the top mid-range sports watch of 2014 (see http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/09/activity-tracker-review.html).It ticks all of the boxes you mentioned above and also includes a daily activity tracker.

Retails from Cycle Lab for R3000.00.

I can second this. Got the M400 for Christmas and it is an awesome device (don't want to call it a watch ;) ). Got mine for 3k (HR strap included) from TotalSports.

The DC Rainmaker review sold me on this one. Have a look at some M400 Youtube videos to get a feel of what is possible with this "watch".

I got the Polar V800, its out of your price range but its awesome and the M400 is its little brother and if it is anything like the V800 it will be an awesome watch.

I am also with discovery and the new polar watches syncs with flow.polar.com and discovery syncs with polarpersonaltrainer.com. So after you upload to flow service you would need to export the session and then upload to discovery. Bit of a mission but you can also import those sessions into strava if you wanted too.

You could get a combo of bike gps and use your phone. The polar H7 hart rate monitor is bluetooth and works with the polar beat app for gym and maybe the Garmin edge 200 for cycling. That would fit into your budget as well. Or just get the H7 hart rate monitor and use your phone for cycling and gym. This method needs no work from you to import into discovery it would sync every night.

That V800 is an awesome watch I must say. Was a bit out of my price range though.

Do you have any idea when Discovery will start using the Polar Flow services? All the newer Polar devices are moving over to Flow anyway. Think I'll pop Discovery an email.

No idea when they will support it.

I am not so impressed with Polar Quality as far as longevity.

I have a lower end device but found the strap of the watch broke after 2 years with no abuse, just the plastic got old too soon - maybe lot of sun while cycling and sweat?

Then the watch no longer picks up the wheel sensor when the watch is mounted on the handlebars (which worked fine for 1 year) despite putting in a new battery - only picks up if the watch is on my wrist (which is actually slightly further from the sensor).

I won't go that route again - once bitten....

I would have thought Polar would use the same type of materials to build their products whether it be high end or low end - only the features would be different - no?

I think I am missing something wrt linking Polar Flow with Discovery. Currently it seems you can only link your Polar Personal Trainer account with Discovery. Seeing that I only have a Polar Flow account I am not able to sync any data other than uploading it manually.

Thanks for the offer on the V800 but I am still happy with my M400.
