Why do you ride?

Used to be involved in Motorsport. Being on the tall side I was always fighting my weight. Started cycling to keep the weight off. After about two years, gave up all Motorsport and just road bikes. On the road, Off the road, whatever, just was too much fun. Did the racing thing for a few years to satisfy the competitor in me but now it's all about riding and enjoying every minute. Wife rides and both my boys ride. Nothing better in this world than heading out for a MTB ride with my father, wife and two kids. And I get to do it every week!! I'm the one you will see at the USN Cup RedBard race tomorrow with 3 bikes behind the car, 2 on the roof and chaos all around.

Hop eto have a family like that one day!!

It makes me feel like a kid again!

Grew up close to the Spruit - as a young kid, my two older brothers and I would go explore the Spruit, catch fish and chase crabs (the 8 legged kind).

Bought a MTB, started hitting the Spruit again - out of convenience - as cross training for my main sport. Its been a weekly love affair with my bike and the dirt ever since.

Still discovering new trails and paths in the various parks along the Spruit between Witkoppen in Petervale and the summit of Northcliff Hill - it is the gift that keeps on giving.

I needed to find an alternative (and fun) way of staying fit when there wasn't any waves.

If surfing is my one true love, then mountain biking is the mistress that has tempted me.

I love surfing. I always will. But she is not as faithful as mountain biking.

(By faithful I mean favourable weather conditions) Its always cooking on the trails. Always

exactly for this reason, and mtb is also one of the reasons why I dont surf anymore
