Why do you ride?

Like most hubbers I saw all the negative things this week (made interesting reading)

But I just want all of you to think why it is that all of us are on this forum?

What is it that binds us together?

And then please tell me why do you ride? What made you start?

Mine is easy, I started to ride bicycle because a girl I really liked was into cycling, and I wanted to impress her.

Ended up marring her, and  she is still my training partner and motivation!

Doing the cape town cycle tour 2015 agian!!

Started mountain biking after a friend asked me to join him on a mountain bike ride. I used his brother's bike and was hooked. We are no longer friends but I still cycle :)

started cycling when the doctor told me that strong quads are the best treatment for my knee injuries from varsity rugby...

love it more than anything else and hope that I can keep riding until they are at least halfway through with building my coffin!

Agreed, can't see myself stop cycling.

It just takes away all the worries! Especially if you commute, then you truly leave your work at work.

And another plus is all the weight that I have lost! And the other health benefits.

The Forum:

Birds of a Feather. Most people look for a shared interest with other humanoids. The classifieds too.

The cycling:

Started off cycling to school at about 8 years of age and loved a bicycle right away. My MTB is one of a few happy places for me: simple, no distractions(this part is not so common now due to #@!%#! traffic etc)., just Your own breathing and sweat; a small tranquil slice of my life journey where I can think, enjoy feeling alive and talk to my Creator).

Been riding bmx and mtb for 25 years now. Most fun I can have and it never gets old. The sound of tires on dirt, the weightless feeling mid jump, the satisfaction of nailing a really tech section of trail or just pulling a sick manual over a few rollers. Mostly though the freedom. Like when you were a kid and suddenly you could ride your bike and go anywhere! I still get that thrill .

Saw a bicycle in my friends garage and decided to get me one. Lost lots of weight and now really enjoying riding with friends and helping those new to the sport, sharing what little knowledge and experience I have gained.

oh, and challenging myself, because there is always someone faster than you

Needed something to keep me fit after I was told I would never run again due to a knee issue...

Spent some time on jeep tracks initially and then found contermanskloof and the rest is history..

You mean why I spend most of my spare cash on cycling

To answer the question, one of my bucket list things to do before I'm old and frail was to ride the 94.7 cycle challenge, I decided last year was the year to get to it, I soon realized I was not fit enough for the rode race so I bought a MTB and decided to do the 30Km. after riding Big Red Barn and a few other places before the 94.7 I was hooked.

Now I love hitting the trail. I find its a place where I can go and not worry about the of the worries we deal with on a daily basis for the few hours!!!

I'M LOVING IT!! MY WALLET IS NOT!!!
