An enjoyable 50km today, same route as last year. No entry bag so considering USN being title sponsor it was a bit disappointing. Could have at least thrown us a Gel or something. Water points not great either. Route markings were good and different distances were well controlled. RedBard as a venue is well catered. Not sure if anyone saw the cyclists throwing fisty cuffs at the entrance before the start this morning. Throwing there bikes and wanting to klap each other. I don't know what the story was but the lot of them should have been sent home.

Great race (50km) - my only 'negative' comment is that BRB should close the trails for casual riders when ther is a race. We (A-batch 50km) got traffic on the BRB side where only the 50km route was. Very young kids and moms, etc. probably about 10 riders. It's not fair to the racers NOR to the casual riders. They have to get out the road on single track and their young and inexperienced - so probably got sh&t scares with 50km racers flying pas them at 20+ km per hour. Can't think that this is their way of having a Sat fun ride! And for us... well, apply patience!!!

Other than that, I managed to shave 20min of last years time + got to the finish staying on the bike - back in 2014 I broke my leg in this race!

I had a great race today, event was well managed and could not fault route or anything.

Seat bolt broke about 10ks before the finsih, had a replacement with me, so I spent about 5 mins repairing that.

Had a great experience with very courteous participants in the field. Was given track so many times without asking. Started in c batch.

Here's a nice story for our northern farms singletrack hero mr PH(dot)d:

Yolande Speedy ( search that name on google) stopped to assist my wife with a puncture.

Even after my wife insisted that she carry on, assistance was given without hesitation.

Rode the 50km in D batch. Very enjoyable, although quite a tough, ride :-)

Facilities are good and atmosphere (fights aside) is great.

I do love having that much singletrack to ride - just wish I was a wee bit better at it.

And that steep drop towards the end of the first half is not as smooth as it was last year - but great fun :-)

Saw some family with kiddies on the trail just before the 30km 50km split. They looked confused and a bit nervous - unsuprisingly. Hope they were ok !

A nice morning out!

Edit - not one person who wanted to pass me was uncool about it and not one person that I wanted to pass made it difficult. Good show guys & girls :-)

How did N do?

I'm sure it's great fun, just not sure how they negotiate the twisty bits of the single track. Unless they just have some of this "technical ability" that I seem to be lacking :-)

Did the 50km. Was my first start in A batch and I really didn't enjoy the first 5kms. Complete chops trying to overtake on tight singletrack, basically forcing people off the trail.

I did laugh when I passed them lying in the bush a minute or so later, a little winded from OTT.

It did up my pace but if this is what A batch is all about then I will rather drop to B.

My lightie "raced" his first 10km. Finished 11th in his age group. He loves his riding, just not sure where to take it. He lined up in tackies on flat pedals next to a chap in full factory kit who had just warmed up on rollers. I understand they start young these days. Suppose it's up to him to decide what he wants from the sport. I support him either way.
