Advice/info please - Trance 2 or Rocky Mountain Altitude 750

OK this is the story.

I banged up my trusty old 26 er with 120mm travel. So now I am looking at a Trance 2 or a Rocky Mountain Altitude 750.

Both look great, the Altitude a bit of a dark horse since there is not much written on it, and I would like some comments or info on it please. The fork and components on the altitude looks better.

I cracked my old frame, so the lifetime warranty on the giant as opposed to the 5 year on the altitude is weighing a bit on me.

The altitude just looks great, on the web, I have not and as far as I know can not see one in real life before making the decision. No stock that I have seen.

Some ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

you need to compare apples to apples not oranges.

Rocky Mountain Instinct or Thunderbolt is closer to the Trance.

Thunderbolt is 120mm, Instinct 130 and Altitude 150... So the trance is between the Instinct and Altitude ito travel.

Having said that, I'd be VERY surprised if you could get an altitude 750 for the same price as the trance. If you could, I'd take it.

My thoughts exactly. The Altitude will probably be more than even the Reign 2, which would be a much closer comparison...

I have just bought an Element and if that's anything to go by I would look at the Rocky Mountain Altitude/Thunder...etc...and then not every person has one either :-)

I can get a Trance 2 2015 with ZTR flow rims and hope hubs at just under R30K and the Altitude at this stage at just over R30k make it R2k difference.

My fears, and bear in mind that I weigh 120k and really enjoy going down as fast and rough as I can.

The Altitude only has 5 year warranty on frame, and has an long thin looking seat stay that bothers me a bit. But it looks great.

ALTITUDE.

The 34 fox fork on the front is a MUCH better fork than the 32 on the Trance, especially given your additional weight. That would make it worth the extra cash by itself.

Don't worry about the warranty. Yes, the Giant is a lifetime warranty, but it's a limited lifetime warranty (whatever that means) and if it ever cracks after the warranty, it'd be a case for your insurer to pick up.

Seriously. Take the Altitude. It's the better bike for you - just that little bit more solidly built, and just that little bit burlier.

I must say the Altitude is really tugging at my heart. Just very little written about it.

I am also throwing a lazy eye on some second hand options, but I keep alternating between the Altitude and Trance.

Just waiting on insurance still, and I need to get cycling again.

If it were me, I'd take the Altitude. The Rocky bikes are awesome. Very little written about it cos it always seems to get overlooked, for some reason. Why, I cannot tell you. But it's an AWESOME bike by all accounts.
