I run 2.5's on 23mm id rims and i fall in the heavy category 115kg plus range (have not weighed for a while) i ride on 2bar pressure and have not had any problems and i enjoy giving it down hill over rocks etc. Grip is good, especially now that i replaced those old Hans Damph's. Now running Maxis Aggressors and Assegai's very happy so far.

replaced the jockey wheels after i bought XT front and rear shifters, derailleurs, cluster and chain. on the day i decided to replace sram with xt, as at that time i was deeply gatvol and could not find the problem, i fortunately started with the rear derailleur, and upon removal of the chain i came across the problem, i replaced the jockey wheels on the sram, since they were beyond cleaning, and subsequently do a regular clean, but have not had problems since, and it has been a couple of years now.

also check your jockey wheels on rear derailleur, if one of them are stiff you can also have problems, been there done that, found it by accident.

Do the Tamiya thing, cheap entry type of stuff, +/- R3000 a couple of years ago. Speed shop use to be at Tyger Manor. Upgrade the plastic bearings to proper bearings, go to electronic speed controller, can upgrade the motor/s, and if you want add 2 cells to the existing 6 cells per battery pack, like an extra battery added, you will have to find space to secure it on the car. This will give you plenty to do and lots of suffering to learn to solder on the batteries without killing them. I managed to avoid making parts out of aluminum, it was great fun, but eventually it will become boring again, and then you will be glad that you did not go the big bucks way. I still take my car out every now and then for some fun, but it is much better if you are a couple of mates doing it together.

Well i got it all wrong then. I got the gloves first and the bike later. Many years ago when i first went mountain biking (on a makro type bike around the dam above coetzenburg) i went over the bars and landed on my hands. I had quite a bit of gravel lodged in my palms. I went and bought gloves the next day. I bought a Gary Fisher only about two weeks later. Gloves and bibs i will not cycle without.

I will admit i am bias. I grew up here, but then spent 16 years in Cape Town and came back 3 years ago. I do not want to go anywhere. We say, quantity is less, but quality is much more. Money and opportunities less, but quality of life is great. There is some traffic (i do realise my standards are much higher now), so depending where you work and stay, it basically is a 15min city. We often say we must make a consious decision to enjoy what we have, like choosing to go for a swim. We often get lazy easily and then miss out on great opportunities.

clear safety glasses put a dremel to it to improve air flow (you do get decent shaped ones) they are tough, uv protection, shatter proof and you dont have to worry about them oh they are cheap too

well i drive a toyota (2 infact, a cruiser and a lexus) no problems, and a cannondale (trigger) for 4 years now, and i am heavy and do give it as best i can, especially on the down hills, and it has not given any trouble, except for the odd bb creak when i have to drag my but up a hill. so comparing a dale with a landy is a bit harsh in my opinion. any bike that can take what I have given my dale is strong. He is heavy but he is my brother....

Ja always a pain when the odd idiot messes things up for everyone. what if a group of locals go to the farmers house, spades (not pitch forks) in hand, and offer serious amounts of manual labour to help build and repair trail, to show him your appreciation for allowing you to use his land.

Rouxenator… I started my mountain biking hobby in the mountains of Stellenbosch in 1991, yes still on CrMo, frames with no suspension. Every time you post your daily commute I go serious envious of your trip. I both hate and love it. You are blessed my man, enjoy it.

oh they have given great service, there are a few knobbies missing on the back tyre though, funny enough, more on the sides than on the main running surface.

I currently run Hans Damph 2.5's and i weigh 120kg odd. They have decent grip and just touch the frame if I really push it in the corners. Running wtb rim up front and a arch stans flow in the back. I hope you still get them as I am up for new ones soon.

What Buff said, on the masking tape. I just used a good quality normal masonary bit (Alphen), tried all the rest, diamond, spear etc. Just start with small bit and drill trough the tape, do not blow the dust away. Tip your bit in water frequently, so you form a paste with the dust, once you are into the glazing it goes quick. basically create a drilling paste, keep your bit cool, and keep the paste wet worked best for me had to do all the fittings in two bathrooms

The one i use to to to work, because i must, the other i use to relax and enjoy because I want to. it does cost a lot, i am stil not going to stop. But your point is valid, maintaining my ds is comparable to running my 4.5l Toyota, I have done the calcs as well. Trapping up the mountain, suffering and sweating, thinking about the costs etc., I wonder why I do this, coming down the mountain,...… then I know.

I have some Bonts, the cabon type that you warm up in the oven and then "mould" around your foot. Great shoes, fantastic fit, light and stiff, but do not try and walk in them, they will take all skin off on your heel. They unfortunately got destroyed around the cleat area, the carbon got crushed.
