Life expectancy of a unused tube?

In my saddle bag there are 2 tubes that is about 3 years old, never been used.

Tubes will be used (someday :whistling: ) on a commuter bike carrying a total weight of about 110kg, tubes/ tyres inflated to a max of 65 psi. Mostly to be ridden on tar roads. I can play it safe and buy new tubes or be adventurous and keep the oldies in my saddlebag.

Thus the following question:
What is the general life expectancy of a unused tube?

Nothing wrong In keeping the old ones as long as they were kept out of direct sunlight it should be fine.

how about a tube taped to your seat post, which is partially exposed (the bits where there is no tape?)

Wrap it in cling wrap or put it in a Jiffy bag before taping it, I'd say.

Those exposed bits would be exposed to UV rays, so after a certain amount of time they will be unusable as it will be stiff and prone to cracking. Same as if you leave a tire partially inflated on a car and don't use it...
