Serengeti Classic Road

VA followed the cop car, the bike marshal and the CSA official. Wrong way.

Ended up doing 120km and had to wait for the dude "in the break" that was also shown the wrong way to return to the bunch after we have turned around.

Route change at 99 and timing co. change last minute (no seeding for Argus or 94.7) coupled with a lot of people missing the correct route......

The organisers wont get my money next year.

Eish! I feel for you and the others that took a wrong turn. Something so simple, yet it often has a BIG impact.

Think I'm going to give my team a test... they need to know the route inside out, back to front, upside down. Can't let this happen on my shift

the big problem was that you had to do the small loop once then straight

but as a marhsal when you see 500 riders, how do you know if they have done the loop or not?

Even I did the loop twice before my race ended.

All the asked was 68 straight hundred left, but didn't ask if you have done it

Also I think direction sprayed on the road is a lot better than a small yellow sticker on a lamp post

Did not go wrong way , But when we came past it was only traffic officer at the corner He showed us to turn right but luckily some riders went left , he then shouted , Is this the second time.

So Exactly the what you say , he must be told by someone that last group doing first lap has come past everybody on second lap now.

Also except for thehubsa i did not get any info that the route changed. When we started the guy with the mike was talking about girls and a rasta man with a helmet on .

Nothing about the route.

The timing company should have had additional mats where the short route went straight - white arrow, and one at the left turn after doing the loop the second time.

This would have then shown up if anyone took the wrong turn and did a shorter route.

When the BL batch got to the T junction one bike went left.  No one questioned the rider, and I did not see his number, as we were getting ready for the right turn BLAST.

VB too; although we noticed much sooner.

This had the end result that two VA guys who were dropped before lap 1 was finished freewheeled with the VBs, and ended up winning the VA race.

We also almost klapped an AL/BL at the turn where they had to turn right (one lap to go), and we had to turn around.

They help, but please consider you're not the only ones putting up arrows.

I saw a bunch like that at the Serengeti which were "Show House This Way."

I did do the extra distance at the Carnival last year, though, and I can't remember any chaos except for the last few kms.

We do remove a lot of signs that could potentially cause a problem

Crashes.  I shouldn't have lumped that sentence in the same post.

No the long route weren't meant to do small loop then straight. That's what the 4 leading tandems did and only ended on 94km. You where meant to do a loop and a half. So where short route went straight you where meant to go right both times. Then at the next intersection on first lap turn right and second lap turn left like the previous years. Confusing, yes. But they did mention it a few times to us at the start and also the map they emailed showed it BUT I must admit as I live not too far from there and also a lot of my club rides use those roads I understood their map and directions. I can easily see how someone that doesn't know the roads can make the mistake.

I was in the lead BL group.  I was convinced that we needed to go straight after the first loop, on to the short route, even after hearing the announcement.  I even called that we need to go straight at the intersection, but luckily there were enough guys who were convinced that we had to go right, then left.

I muttered to myself for a while, as I was sure we were going wrong.

I do not live out there, so even after studying the map, was very confused.

The timekeepers need to have additional mats out where there are multiple route options.

One thing is for sure. I'm not wasting my time on this puzzle maze race, ever. Sounds like it was a blessing that I missed it.

AND it was championchip so did nothing for our seeding. Kinda like paying a speeding fine, You paying the money but don't get anything in return.

Ja something needs to be done. Im sure some of the guys it was an honest mistake but ja it was quite a confusing one.

I don't blame you for being super cross after that one. It sucks to have mechanical's or punctures and then to have the route issues just makes one even more de motivated.
