IceCreamMan Posted June 4, 2015 Share I find it sad when people are not bothered by large packs in a non drafting triathlon. I get seriously upset if someone sits on my wheel deliberately. Expect 32Gi in the face. Cycling is my strength, I can't piggyback off you on the swim or the run. Go do your own training, I am not there to drag you to the finish. Rant over. Not a case of not being bothered but a case of it is what it is.... sadly this is a reality. It normally takes a long distance to string the groups out....at IM even on the second lap there were still groups of ppl riding together. the smaller ultra's like midlands, sun city, trirock there were still groups ...and these are events with less than 500 entrants... whether one chooses to ride in a group and thus cheat is what is bothering and outside the spirit of triathlon. Edit: I see aq session with paul has been arranged for midday, if I can get on I will ask how they intend controlling this, reality is in the age groupers its nigh on impossible...a 2 minute penalty does not dissuade ppl. IceCreamMan Posted June 4, 2015 Share I saw you asked the question as did I...Not sure the rolling swim start will cure the bunching and drafting as 10second rolling starts is not a lot. It will help though.

Also, when do we need to advise of our preferred start? When do we need to advise of our preferred start time on the swim?via·about an hour ago12:26 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff Unless you are leading the race, you have people to follow! Front pro has a motorbike in front of him, so you can follow the leader.via·about an hour ago12:26 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From The loops and covering sections of the bike course repeatedly sounds confusing. will it be necessary to go look at it beforehand. when Im very tired I tend to not concentrate so well.. The loops and covering sections of the bike course repeatedly sounds confusing. will it be necessary to go look at it beforehand. when I'm very tired I tend to not concentrate so well..via·about an hour ago12:25 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff You can leave it in your streetwear bag or in one of your transition bags if it's non-wetsuit.via·about an hour ago12:25 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Macs Where will we put our wetsuits if its not wetsuit legal?via·about an hour ago12:25 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff No, run profile is flat and fast, not like EL at all.via·about an hour ago12:24 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Adam what is the run profile like, anything similar to EL?via·about an hour ago12:24 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff 16 degrees, the wetsuit is compulsory - if you want to take the risk not to buy a wetsuit and the water is too cold, you will not be allowed to swim. Borrow or rent a wetsuit if you don't want to buy.via·about an hour ago12:24 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Adele I don't want to go and buy a we suit if the temperature for 3 weeks prior to the event is warm enough to not need one, to call it on the day is just adding an extra expense I want to avoid if possible
Dean Lance Tyler Posted June 4, 2015 Share Paul Wolff Thanks for joining the chat. Relax and focus on your training. This will be a fast and fun course. Look forward to a PB. Cheers via · 15 minutes ago 13:02 - 4 Jun 2015 Admin That's all the time we have for today. Thanks for joining us, keep a lookout for our next session towards the end of June. via · 15 minutes ago 13:01 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Gary Hi Paul, for EL we never got the IM magazines as the Post Office was / is broken. Any chance it can be in the goodie bag? via · 16 minutes ago 13:01 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff: We are confirming whether or not we will be doing a magazine this year, but if we do we will send out a digital interactive version before the race to athletes. via · 16 minutes ago 13:01 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Mandy If it takes 20min for everyone to start how do cut offs work? (I am expecting to be very tight on time and need every minute!) via · 17 minutes ago 13:00 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff: Your cut off is determined by when you cross the timing mats. Everything is controlled by timing. If you miss the cut offs you will be DNFed. via · 17 minutes ago 13:00 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff We are waiting for confirmation on this but none of the hotels are too far away from transition. In Barcelona you have to walk 6km before you even start via · 17 minutes ago 12:59 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Macs Are there shuttles running from the TsogoSun hotel that partnered with IM703Durbs? via · 18 minutes ago 12:59 - 4 Jun 2015 Admin We are just about to wrap up, thanks for keeping those questions coming in! via · 18 minutes ago 12:58 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff Check the race schedule on the web under Athlete tab via · 19 minutes ago 12:58 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Michael what are the registration times? And what time is the briefing? via · 19 minutes ago 12:57 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff About 28% of the field are ladies. via · 20 minutes ago 12:57 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From MVZ Hi Paul, how many ladies have entered? via · 20 minutes ago 12:57 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff There is parking at SUNCOAST and alternative routes will be available if you leave late and road closure is already enforced. via · 20 minutes ago 12:57 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Andre Will there be sufficient parking at the venue/ transition area? We will not be staing in Durban, but closer to Zimbali. Worried about road closures, traffic etc. and missing the start time. (Refer to 2014 94.7 Cycle challenge) via · 21 minutes ago 12:56 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Devan Just out of interest, this must be one of a very few winter Ironmans. And in my hometown too (I'm now living in EL) via · 21 minutes ago 12:56 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From TarynKerr Hi Paul! Trirock have had to cancel swim before. Is IM policy same as EL? via · 21 minutes ago 12:55 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff: IRONMAN policy is that the weakest swimmer must be accounted for. We will go into a bike/run if swim is cancelled completely. via · 21 minutes ago 12:55 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff Full road closure but half the course is single side of the highway. via · 22 minutes ago 12:55 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Adam how many km's of the bike route will have full road closure? via · 22 minutes ago 12:54 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff East London we have about half entries left, going fast. via · 22 minutes ago 12:54 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff Yes it will be Pump bottles via · 23 minutes ago 12:54 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Adam off topic, how many entries are left for imsa70.3 EL? Also, whats happened witht eh firsh farm in PE? via · 23 minutes ago 12:54 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Chanel Will the bottles given out on the bike be the larger Pump bottle again? via · 23 minutes ago 12:54 - 4 Jun 2015 Paul Wolff We have referees that will help spread out the field. via · 23 minutes ago 12:54 - 4 Jun 2015 Comment From Mandy I recently did a cycle event with only 500 people and everyone was on top of everyone else. How will a field of 3000 be able to be non drafting. Even with the rolling start? Surely that won't spread everyone out that much?

Rocket-Boy Posted June 4, 2015 Share Paul WolffLike any place along the coast - Westerly wind will make sea rough, Easterly will make it flat.via· Errr nope, westerly makes it flat, easterly makes it rough. I spent enough time surfing the east coast as a youngster to know that.
