First ride Fox Float leaking oil

New Landy new life

My first ride on my Giant Trance 2 and the rear shock is pissing oil.

Bike shop set the pressure according my weight.

Is the normal just to swap it out or do I loose my new ride for weeks on end?

Just loosing oil or pressure also?

If it is just oil, it is probably just a bit of excess oil. Not really a bad thing.

If it dropped pressure, then there is another problem.

Is it dripping oil or just leaving a bit of greasy stuff on the shaft?

There are two types of oil/lubricant in your shock. The damper oil is more liquid and should not be escaping. The lubricant oil/grease may ooze out a bit but should not be excessive. Post some pics...will help us to assess.

The first week I had the bike she just stood and I noticed oil and clear grease oozing down the shaft which I assumed was initial assembly oil/grease.

I wiped this off with clean rag and last night went for a decent run.

When I got home found small amount of oil on the shaft and drops of oil in the pocket below the shock.

Cant take pics now, but for safety I will rather let the shop take a look as there are some other setup issues not done properly.

That does not sound right... I also get some stuff sitting on the O-ring which eventually makes some dirt etc stick there but never past it or dripping... I was actually concerned about the amount the was coming out of mine also but I think mine is just a greasy substance not oil... yours sounds like oil. and definitely not good.

My brother's monarch one day just pi$$ed out all the oil contents while the bike was standing. Not getting ridden or anything... was also pretty much new with maybe 10hrs and 200km on it.

Take it in and have it fixed up or swopped out.

I'm a bit late to the discussion but to me all does not seem well.  You did not mention which shock you have on the bike.  If any shock DRIPS oil from anywhere, I would be concerned because it is most likely fluid from the damper.  Fox use oil (float fluid) above the main piston but if that leaks out the seals are faulty and air will probably leak as well.  Rock Shox and some others use grease which should not drip.  DT Swiss just have a wipe of oil.  I would take it to Droo for a second opinion.

my shock has actually cleared up with the greasy deposit on the O-Ring etc.

Had the shock checked and all is good. No leaks or anything. No air and no oil or any other fluid.

This was a FOX CTD shock std on 2014 Giant Trance.

My Fox float shock shaft is always a bit "wet/greasy" to touch, but not dripping or anything like that, guess it's normal to be like that. Been riding it a year like that, does not lose air or anything ...

Hi guys,

I know nothing about shocks etc. But I don't like to hear about anything leaking, oozing etc. I would take it back and get the LBO to acknowledge that I was not happy.

Have a great weekend, and Landy enjoy your bike you got a good one!!
