Namibian summer + bombing down a loooooooonnnnngggggg hill pretty much does it. I'll get another LBS to check it out though, maybe it's just a bleed issue

Considering Avid uses DOT fluid to reduce chances of fade I highly doubt its fading. Avid's are like black magic tho from everything i have read. They either work incredible or they require a lot of attention and then only work half time.

Like an alfa or an opel manta.

Wonderful when they're working but do something g wrong and all bets are off.

If the Avids are really that bad on your bike then maybe try a set of Shimano XT.

I have had no issues with any of the shimano brakes I have had. From entry level, Deore, SLX, XT... all without a problem or a sound... they just work.

@ OP - Other than the brakes that are a problem - what else is wrong on the bike???

TBH with the cost of Deore nowadays (locally and internationally) i'd go that way. Exactly the same internals, and all of the power. You don't need the Servowave either...

S14phoenix:

The Suntour XCM feels a bit iffy over rougher terrain, rebound doesn't appear to have any effect

Noise and difficult shifting, adjusting the rear derailleur helps for about 1 long ride

Grinding BB

Clicking front rim

It kinda feels like I got a bum deal if I see what the Momsens with decent components go for brand new

I would not go for a new bike.

Id first degrease the drive train and wash the bike

Then replace shifter cables inner and outer.

Replace the BB.

Then look into wheel.

Lastly Replace the fork with something like a Rockshox Reba

Either way your gonna spend money.

Unlikely new bike will have a fork that performs as you wish.

Amberdrake - What I paid for this bike, I could have gotten a Momsen A329 with a Reba

I'll get the bike properly serviced though and replace as needed.

Thanks for all the advice guys

you spent the money already on this bike... no use spending again. fix small issues first

when you got all that fixed you can get a better feel for the bike. Then keep an eye out for a good fork...

good luck bud!

Never think of a bike as an investment! :D

Upgrade components as you get funds, you'll appreciate all the incremental steps in improvement on the bike and you'll probably end up with a better specc'd bike in the long term.

And time! Thanks Porqui, there's always 1 plonker

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll replace the BB tonight, perhaps bleed the brakes one more time.

Fork will have to wait a while as will the derailleur
