Hi Guys.

Done the Epic on the 36 and was fine. Legs was good and the travel I get on the 36 makes that I dont get too much slip on loose gravel. I rode almost everything, only the one climb on day seven for 80m I walked...as everyone did.(Flats..great)

The congestion at Worcester to Wellington stage up the mountain I rode most on the bad line as almost everybody walked.

I find it good in sand as well as my travel is a bit longer and helps with rotation speed..the pace sand needs..and this was the thick sand.( tyre pressure makes a huge difference here as well, and ride it mostly soft on sandy days.)

I would fit a 34 in near future to see how it feels and have a tested argument for myself and maybe help for others.

It was a good Epic though.

Regards

Kotie

I did both Barberton and Sabie Ultras with the 32t no problem, but was glad I took the 30t along to the Epic.

How was the 30T on the flat and fast sections?

Flat and fast sections of the epic are gone.

With a 30 you can ride at 40km/h.if you can do that on a off-road flat section you running top 30 at the epic.

Ran a 30 on the epic and never once was looking for more top end.

Same here, not once did I feel I needed an extra top-end gear, and I'm running 1x10. If there was maybe some sections that was very fast I was free-wheeling anyway.

you must be kidding right? there were so Many flat & fast sections in 2015 edition, in fact it was my job to sit on the front, set the pace & break the wind. I guess it's all relative to what you consider flat & fast. The 32T 1x11 was the perfect assault weapon for me at least.

Hi guys! I just found this topic I opened before 2015 epic. I finally rode an sworks epic 2014 with 32t for the entire race. Im a coach who was partnering with one of my athlete (54 years old) but he rides very hard, however he was forced to drop out of the race in Km 81 in 3rd stage of 128km. i did the rest of the race on my own climbing the charts despite starting always very far behind, the last two stages I could ride pretty hard always on my own since I dropped everyone from the start (I had a great partner for some kms SA rider of team 333 I cant remember his name).

I can tell you that the 32t was fine for me and I rode it pretty hard last two days, i could get 45/46kmh on some flats so it works great!! I will choose it again, however I could have used a 34t in a couple of stages!
