I think this would be a great idea. I have no problem paying an extra couple of percent on top of the price for the cost of the service. It will protect guys from bad sellers.

It will also deter bad sellers because they know the goods will be returned and they will be liable for transport costs etc.

That's really bad news , but you can still rescue them .. There is a guy ( German ) is Jeffrey's Bay near PE that does amazing work on carbon repair for decent prices . Had two friends take wheel and frames to him and still going strong . Chat to him if you want to fix it ... http://www.customworks.co.za

Thanks Delgado

My LBS has sent them to a guy in Durban who is also excellent. I have seen some of his work. Luckily it is the rear wheel. I'm not sure i would be 100% confident if it was the front one

Sorry that you got fleeced.

Surprised nobody mentioned Rouxtjie's 1000 Post Gold Standard (unless I missed it). It is the one subscribe to.

Its become the common knowledge now, no need to mention it anymore. Kind of like "Zuma is a box" no need to say it out loud ;)

100 bottles of beer on the wall

thats all

Why 1000? Eish I would've picked a random number so you could turn it into a campaign. 777 for example is like you've hit the jackpot and now it's trading with Rouxtjie time! It even works as a tagline!

or what about the Hub accrediting LBS's across the country to perform verifications?  Give publicity to the shops, and encourages hubbers to go to these shops?

Conflict of interest should any of those on the list be the subject of a rant? What's in it for the LBS? Who prescribes the fee?

1000 might be a bit steep so it a compromising thing...I really wish admin / mods will take this suggestion to heart. The hub is becoming scumtree lately. I have zero confidence in the classifieds...you really don't want to polute the main driver / thing that creates traffic. Also a 100 isn't really that much. It will stop the fly by nighters / scammers as well as the okes taking a chance to offload bad / broken merchandise since there if effort involved.

I have inspected goods on behalf of out-of-town Hubert's and where possible will do so in future. It is however an "after the fact" solution and a hassle to the buyer.

I am planning on getting rid of a few things in the next month or so and am considering getting a trusted hubber to look at everything I am selling upfront and giving it his stamp of approval which I will make public in advance.

This way, at the cost of a bottle of scotch to me, I believe the buyer will have comfort and I will eliminate risk for them.

I am in agreement. However Admin and co believe it is too great a barrier to involvement for many people who simply want to use the classifieds only. As such it is better to emply a safe system such as the one you have on an individual basis!

I'm watching to see if you see a deal and chirp the seller that you would love to buy but can't as they are not rouxjtie post count approved yet! hehe

I still feel that there should be more emphasis on the feedback system.

I used to use eBay a lot and constantly got email reminders about leaving feedback for things that I had bought.  I found this necessary as you don't want to leave feedback before the thing arrives, and after it arrives you forget about it.

Not sure how it would work on here - maybe an email asking if you have purchased an item that you've commented on / made contact with the buyer through the site - something like that.

There needs to be a reminder system.

I've sold various bike parts and even whole bikes (sight unseen I might add) through the Hub but I've still got zero feedback, even after asking for it.  I look like a noob even though I'm not.

I don't think that the classifieds should be tied to forum posts - some people actually have jobs where they are required to work and so can't be posting random crap all the time.

But a trusted feedback system is needed.

Feedback is good and all but % like e-bay would be nice. Some sellers/buyers rate better than others after all. Neutral rating feels a lot like 50% and sometimes that's really not a true reflection. Overall i do try rating everyone i do business with however i do find it difficult if the ads been removed already.

I think it can self-regulate, and I think that shops who are on the "Verification" list would be more inclined to respond quickly and appropriately to rants.  If there is 1 thing I have noticed is that shops that are the subject of a rant run away from responding, and then they get smashed up as a result.  This may well encourage a faster and more responsive type of behaviour from shops that are more "involved" in the hub.

As for fee, I am curious to have responses from any shop owners on this point.  Would it not suffice (i.e. no fee) to be a named and listed as a Hub verifier, which would hopefully steer more traffic to your shops?
