Is buying a used MTB worth it?

Yes!! Make sure you have some change for a new chain, tyres, grips and top tier service.

If you can, also get  a new saddle (personal preference, I always like being the first one to fart on a saddle)

Wow, lot of money spent on upgrades!

First, have a look at www.bicyclebluebook.com to give you an idea on price. I have found that the prices $/R are fairly accurate at current exchange rate. You still need someone to look at it and see how hard it has been ridden over the last year. As it is carbon, be very careful with the frame and have it checked for cracks!

I can't see myself spending new bike kind of money when I can get 2 or 3 different bikes for the same price. What may be considered an investment to some is just a commitment to me. I'm probably gonna sell, replace, change or upgrade this and that later coz its an itch i'm always scratching.

As soon as a new bike leaves the store it loses half its resale value. I froth over the lastest bikes and gadgets like any of us. But not enough to make me part with my money, well most of the times anyways.

The other day I randomly climbed with someone I just met. We were going at the same pace and had a bit of a chat. His bike was probably worth 10 times the value of mine.

It was an awesome ride. Pretty flash and I was super impressed. But in the end were both super stoked and had fun riding our bikes.

If you are technically minded and/or bike savvy to some degree it probably means you love experimenting and wont be happy commited to a single bike for long. In which case you'll find yourself swindling all the time.

Whereas there are those who know exactly what they want and they choose to pay for it and the peace of mind it comes with.
