Made a safety presentation to my colleagues at our weekly meeting on the topic of wider of the rider, brought up quite a bit of discussion but what was clear was the ignorance of the actual legislation. At least my work buddies are now aware. My small contribution to the cause

But "technically" you are asking them to obey and break the law in the same sentence

You're incorrect, Smimby. We are allowed to ride in the yellow Line. Aarto allows for it. It doesn't specifically point to bicycles, but it refers to slower vehicles being allowed to go into the yellow line in order to allow faster vehicles to pass.

 

Given that we are all slower than vehicles, riding in the yellow line is an allowable practice as it allows faster vehicles to pass us.

 

As such, hairy is NOT saying that cyclists should disobey the law.

n the Koos Roux case (the cyclist killed on Bottelary Rd in May 2013), we have finally reached the end of the road. Geoffrey Merrick was found guilty on four charges, culpable homicide being the main one. Sentencing takes place on 22 August and we are hoping for a harsh sentence. The PPA Office will be at the Kuilsrivier court for the sentencing and you are welcome to join us as we stage a silent protest.
