This is one Tough Ride!

Got my wheel bake from Local Bike shop as I broke some spokes Wednesday morning going to a warm up ride, only to take a spin down the driveway and have another break! Seems spokes were over tensioned!

So I got out my Wifes bike, gave it a quick service and loaded on the car.

Lets just say I really had to dig deep to finish this race!

Legs weren't fully recovered from a 8KM Trail Run Wed evening

Bike that was slightly smaller than mine, Flatties, terrible tires.

But at the end of the day it was great fun and the riders on the day were all mostly very friendly, gave way if I heard a faster rider behind me on the signle track and guys gave way to me in turn, just a good tough day on the bike, will love to do this ride again.

Finishing time a very humble 3:44 ^_^

I only have one problem with this race. In the last 10km there was a lot of farm children. The all begged for sweeties. To one little group I politely said that I do not have any. I was about 50 meters away and it started raining rocks around me. When I looked back one of them screamed "F#k jou Boer" and they started running away. I was alone at the time. Any of you got thrown with rocks?

Same here, but no rocks.

I encountered about 5 of them at this one point.

There were 2 or 3 bigger girls, between 8-12 years old.

The route passed between 2 buildings on a farm, when they asked me for chocolates.

When I told them that I am out, they acted as if they were going to run into my bike.

Not cool.....

Teachers (organisers) at the school has got some work to do.....

Ha ha, a sandy stretch between the vineyards these two makkers pushed the people. The one started pushing me, helped a bit. He asked me for "tjokkelitz" and as soon as I repleid I ate them all, he stopped pushing. I shoulve told him that I would give him some after the sandy bit....

Yet another suffer fest for me but I keep coming back to do this race.

Very beautiful scenery and great atmosphere.

I also dont like when the kids beg for sweeties but luckily i wasnt thrown with stones or any vulgar language. That is something the organisers really need to focus on for next year.

They also need to find a different route back to the finish because those last 10kms are horrible roads with lots of sandy portions that you cant pedal thru as it gets to soft and quite long patches.

The water points this year werent anywhere close to last year either as they had a table full of chocolates and sweets last year and none this year.

As I said before this race should start @ 7h30 to help against the heat in those mountains. Last year it was mid 30's and this year it was again 30deg's.

My strava also recorded 48kms and 1170m elevation.

All in all quite a tough short race.

Agree with regards to the Kids, they were very annoying, they kept jumping in front of me and wanting to see / be captured on my Action Cam! Eventually stopped trying to avoid and made it clear that I will ride over them if they get in my way!

Fantastic to get all the feedback and especially the ones where we can better! We have a feedback session Friday and I will race all the concerns, especially about the children, it definitely needs to be addressed.

The sandy tracks were definitely more this year, primarily because it is really dry and we desperately need some rain.

Regarding the starting time, we have this discussion each year, and yes it is to accommodate the masses from Cape Town, but we are considering a earlier start with the with 47.9km (46 ;-)) at least! (Regarding those distances.... I'll have a chat with the organisers.)

One of our parents took some photographs and you are welcome to check out the Facebook page and see if you were snapped. Please tag yourself, we would love to get to know our riders! Link: https://www.facebook.com/BREEDEMTB/photos_stream

Over all glad everyone enjoyed the race and yes it is challenging! One of my friends did the Cape Epic this year and says stage 5, which is our 46km, was the toughest part of the whole Cape Epic for him. So well done to you all for competing and COMPLETING!!

Please if there is anything else you would like us to address or want us to add to the event, let us know. We grow in numbers every year and like to add something new to the event each year!

Sorry for missing the questions prior to the race about the routes, thank you for helping each other.
